Suggestions for fun easy scrambles in RR?
|
I'm going to be in Vegas for a few days and since I don't have a partner, was hoping to just scramble a bit and see some cool stuff. I don't want anything that will freak me out, but I'd love to go on some good hikes and scrambling is ok too! Does anyone have any suggestions? If anyone wants to join, send me a message - I'll probably go Thursday evening and all day on Friday. I have my shoes and harness (but left all my gear) so climbing would be tough. Thanks! |

The hike from the Pine Creek parking lot to the Brownstone Wall in Juniper Canyon has some boulder hopping and light scrambling involved. It's a roughly ~2 hour hike from the parking lot to get to the Brownstone Wall. You could also go to the first pullout and hike around the sport climbing areas like Panty Wall. Calico Basin also has some nice hiking and plenty of exploring you can do around the climbing areas - including the hike out to where "Atman" and "Yin and Yang" routes are located. |

There's White Rock Springs Peak. Pretty easy and should only take a few hours and you get an excellent view of White Rock Mountain. The scramble to Ramp Peak, Rose Tower, and Magic Mountain are also super sick and relatively easy. All three can be accessed by the same scrambling route. All 3 do require some 4th class moves tho. Magic has an interesting downclimb off the summit block but it's not bad |

Gunsight notch loop is pretty mellow, beautiful, and pine creek is currently full of water which would be nice. Up the west gully of Kraft and down the backside for a short day out From Ash Spring up the backside to calico tanks, loop around with rattlesnake trail - depending on your route finding you may find a scary section or 2 - also short day out Rainbow Direct is my favorite, but it has loads of 4th and low 5th class, with fixed ropes in place for the exposed 5th sections. Long day out Calico Ridge traverse - park at red springs, hike toward the boulder problems on the way to moderate mecca, head up to the ridge and choose your own adventure across the ridge - i've done this many times and I'm always finding new paths, if something looks gnarly there is a way around. You can bail at guardian pass or head back up to the ridge at the pass and hit calico tanks, calico peak and on. |

The Mt Wilson hike was lovely with some fun boulders on the way. https://lasvegasareatrails.com/mt-wilson-rainbow-mountain-wilderness-nevada/ |
