Hello, I am wanting to plan a trip to the italian and swiss alps this summer/fall. I just wanted to ask if someone knew if its better to stay near Val di Mello than near Bergaglia (swiss side). How do you feel about climbing opportunities in Val di Mello? I know there is a lot of bouldering but is there sport climbing? single pitch sport and trad? I need to be able to do some stuff with my wife and then some stuff without her such as the Piz Badile. Any input or recommendations are welcome as I try to plan this climbing trip!

Yes. Go to Val Di Mello. There's a bit of everything there and it's a fantastic place for a holiday! Probably cheaper than Bregaglia too.

Val di Mello is beautiful. There is good sport climbing on Sasso Remenno (apparently the largest boulder in Europe) right near town, and some sectors further up the valley as well. Most of the trad climbing is multipitch I believe. The hiking, food and scenery are spectacular too. Plus if you arrive from Milan you go right by Lago di Como which you could visit as well. However, if you are set on Piz Badile I think most of the classic routes are approached from the Bregaglia side.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
