Squamish Long Term Camping and Climbing

Hello,

This Summer I plan on taking a lengthy road trip to Squamish and stay there for at least a month, maybe longer if I decide. I have been climbing for 2 years now and have been doing mostly sport climbing, but recently have been doing more trad and multipitch (I am still somewhat inexperienced in these.) I have done a lot of camping, but never more than a week at once. My question is what long term camping is like in Squamish? Is there long term free camping or do these have to be reserved? Can I leave my campsite unattended for the day and not have to worry about things being stolen? What about bears? Any information would be appreciated as I have never been to Squamish but am very excited to visit and climb there.

I camped in Cheakamus Canyon for a month. Have to drive a bit in the morning to get to trad multi, but if you’re sport climbing there’s a ton right there. Free sites up the road a bit (at least when I was there), with a pit toilet at the bottom. Never had an issue with leaving tent up during the day, but I wouldn’t exactly leave my rack out in my camp.

Chekamus canyon is a sure thing. I’d start there, then on a rest day drive down to the chief campground early and see if you can beg someone for a site as they’re leaving. Not sure how long you can stay there, but by then you’ll know the lay of the land and figure out what you want to do
