Camping at Silver Mountain

I'm planing to get to Silver Mountain as soon as I can. I heard that the camping situation up there has changed. In that you can't camp around the circle drive anymore.

Is that the case? If so what is the new ethic for camping there?

TIA

I'm pretty sure you can just camp at the end of the road now within a few hundred feet of the circle drive. That place is far out in the backwoods - I wouldn't be too worried about finding a spot to pull over and sleep.

I was there last fall. There's a new well established camping area "within a few hundred feet" of the circle drive. You still have to take the "climber's road" to get there which can be hard to find in the dark. You just won't make it all the way to the circle because there's rocks in the way. Be mindful when parking, there's not a lot of room. Like Kenny said if you don't find it no one will bother you if you're off the road on any of the other numerous pulloffs.
Also be aware there's no water source, no bathrooms, it's really just a spot in the woods. Maybe that's what makes it so special. Have fun.

Yeah the main thing that changed is you can't park your car directly inside the old main camping area. That being said, there are plenty of equally great camping spots in the more wooded area right by where you have to park the cars now. Depends on preference, how crowded it is, and how far you want to walk.

Basically when you are on the final road to get to the main day-use parking lot, there is a split and a rougher looking road goes up and to the left. Take this until you encounter rocks blocking the way and there is a pullout for 3-4 cars on the left. If you're really desperate, people do still just park and camp right in the main day-use lot, but there's not as much space for tents unless you're setting up literally in the parking lot.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
