For those fans of Pigtails/Rams-horns I wanted to share that I recently discovered the Brazilian made Bonier Dupla hanger is an ideal choice for mounting these twisted-rod type lower-offs- specifically with mechanical bolts. This hanger’s design offers a unique wide surface area that is intended to allow one to rappel directly off the hanger. I’m not a big fan of that application, but when you install a rams-horn it threads/slides easily on the back/spine of the hanger pre-installation, but once installed on the rock it isn’t really possible to remove/steal(?) the rams-horn due to the wide base of the hanger design. You must remove the hanger first, and then the pigs-tail “un-threads” from the “spine” of the hanger without any resistance. Down the road if maintenance or replacement of the pigs-tail is needed, the only tool that is required is a ratchet with the correct socket for the bolt-head or nut, and a then a quick removal and swap out of the rams-horn.

(Of course you could also use a 5-piece 1/2” expansion bolt instead of the 1/2” wedge bolt I used for the photo mock-up.)

Hopeful some find this useful

Nifty feature of the dupla. Thanks for that little tidbit.
Never had anyway horns walk away, but this is good beta if for whatever reason the humans suck in your area and you need to mitigate.

You should be using glue-ins for installation in cardboard, its soft matrix will lead to spinners with mechanical bolts.
