BD OLD Viper picks
|
TL:DR does anyone know where to get new picks for the old BD viper tools in Europe? Or does anyone have recommendations on recent similar tools?
So I’m looking at two options really: First is replacing the picks, second is going for new tools. I’m still starting out on ice, did my first leads this season and I’d like to go for technical mountaineering/north faces in the long term. I tried my friends quarks last week and I didn’t like them very much, they felt too light/unbalanced for my liking so I had to use much more force to drive the picks in. So, does any of you have a recommendation, either new tools or picks available in Europe? Does anyone know if it is possible to retrofit newer picks to older tools? Thanks in advance! |

The picks are still available at least in the US directly from BD -> Link. I am surprised they are not available in Europe. If they are truly unavailable in Europe, if you know someone coming to the US have them buy the picks a bring them back for you. I do similar frequently. |

They are available. I think it's possible you are searching for the wrong thing. Titan's have been replaced as a model for the forged alpine pick. There's a lot of cross compatibility pre hydra. Needle Sports are a good source of info on compatibility. |

Just checked. It is compatible. I seen to think the more recent viper is interchangeable with picks. But not hammers and adze |

Alright that sounds great! I just had the info from ukc that BD changed something. Working in retail myself I contracted BD German/Austrian support and they didn’t know because the orange vipers were discontinued too long ago… But that sounds great then I will order the contemporary viper picks soon. Thanks a lot for your help! |

Look at my posts above. ie ok with picks up to the hydra ICE ones, which is a big change. But hammer and adze did change with the current viper |

Full disclosure - I am a Co-owner of Furnace Industries. We are a re-seller of Kuznia Spezju who makes replacement picks out of Poland. If you are in Europe it probably makes more sense to order directly from them. This is the BD picks they have available if you want to check them out! |
