I can't remember where I heard it, maybe it was in a forum post here. Someone described putting a 22cm screw on a biner as a reserve for making a v-thread and they wrapped the screw in something that doubled as an edge protector. That sounded like a neat idea and I'd like to try it but I forget where I read it and what the details are. Any ideas? It might have just been a piece of hose but I feel like it was a bit cleverer than that.
Since I'm sure I'll get someone asking "why?" and telling me me I shouldn't bother or something, this weekend I lead a party of three, after belaying the second I wanted to get photos of the 3rd so I fixed the free rope and lowered myself to get an angle, then jugged back up. When I got back up my rope had a pretty fucked up section to it. I really should have used a protector. I would like to add a small light protector to my kit when I'm leading a party of 3 like that.
