Any beta on Hong Kong as a climbing destination? Thinking about going there in late Jan/early Feb as part of a larger trip and would love to climb while there. Any info on finding partners, access issues, places to stay, etc. would be appreciated. I’ve heard there’s some issues with the government chopping bolts recently but don’t know how widespread that is.
Easiest way to find partners is probably the facebook group, which is quite active. For beta, hongkongclimbing.com is pretty comprehensive.
The best climbing that we did in Hong Kong was on Tung Lung Chau, which is a mostly unpopulated island. Great routes, lots of cool movement in a nice seaside setting. You can get there via a 45 minute ferry on weekends (and public holidays). On weekdays you'll need to rent a boat to get there, which would be pretty expensive if you were going by yourself but sometimes groups of climbers coordinate on facebook for rentals.
Outside of that there's climbing all over Hong Kong, most of which is accessible via public transit. There are only a few areas (most notably Beacon Hill) where there has been recent bolt chopping, which you should be able to find details about on the website (or on facebook).
