Blue Ice vs Petzl semi-auto toe bails
|
The semi auto Petzl toe bails have a terrible design that allows smaller, 3-season boots and most approach shoes toes to slip through the front when kicking. Does anyone know if the blue ice ones are narrow enough to not have this issue? Thanks! |

Super helpful thanks! Looks like it’s about the same gap width though :( |

Petzl now sell a Fil Flex Small which solved this issue on my wife's size 38 boots: Fil Flex Small |

It looks like the woven material of the BI toe would allow sewing a small cross piece of webbing to prevent a small boot toe from slipping through. |

Sort of off topic- sort of- Grivel makes 3 sizes of the newmatic front bail. Small Medium and Large |

Yeah the positioning of the grivel "Front nubs" looks like it could be superior to the petzl design. Just hard to say if they would fit my blue ice crampons without trying them on. I feel like stiff, modern 3 season boots lose a lot of performance with crampons simply because of poor toe-basket designs. I guess that's the price to pay for modular crampons... |
