climbing information for beginners

I meant to post this in this area and forgot. Here it is now. I will bump every once and a while if the moderators don't make it a sticky. The link is to a long "article" I wrote about every possible climbing danger I could think of. I'm sure I missed some obscure ones but if you are new to climbing, new to climbing outside or new to gear-protected routes, you might find something of value. The purpose of the article is to prompt you to seek out expert resources and to get expert instruction about things you don't understand. Safe climbing, Phyl |

Great, quality post. This is why I come to MP! If I had one nitpick, it would be to have a menu of links to each section. Not familiar with how WordPress works, so not sure if it's possible. But would be awesome to see. |

Time to bump this... I'm reading an article about Alain Robert in the most recent issue of Summit Journal (Issue 321, Fall 2024). Worldwide, he is probably the most famous living soloist. It was interesting to read that the two worst accidents he has suffered in his life were when he was a beginning climber. The first was an example of this mistake (excerpt from my article): In 1982 at the age of 19, he threaded his rope through the nylon webbing on the top of a climb and was lowered. The anchor webbing melted and he fell 65 feet to the ground. Another excerpt from my article: In his next bad accident Alain was rapping from an anchor which had been constructed by other people. The anchor failed and he hit the ground from 50 feet up. |
