El Potrero Chico -- Concerns? (Cartel being labeled terrorists)

How are we all feeling about upcoming trips to EPC with the Cartel being labeled a terrorist org?

Anyone cancelling trips? I'm headed down in a few weeks and want to feel out the community.

Currently driving there. If you don't hear from me in a few days, stay away. Or maybe I'm just enjoying the climbing so much and haven't found wifi. I'll let you know

I don't think the cartel honchos care about being labeled differently or about much of anything DJT is saying. And, if they do, they're not going to blame it on random gringo climbers. Go have a nice climb there. The risks are still the same, as are the benefits.

I was there a couple of years ago. I recall there were big pick up trucks with federal law enforcement people in full body armor seen patrolling in town and the canyon. In the back of the trucks were mounted machine guns.

The issue is not really the cartels, but the theory that the U.S. can target declared terrorists for extra-judicial killings. I’m hoping that even the current administration wouldn’t do this in Mexico, but there were more than a few civilian picnics in Afghanistan mistakenly blown to smithereens by drone strikes.

Unfortunately, I believe that, and more, is precisely what the current US administration is intending. If that does happen, then, very sadly, EPC, and pretty much all of Mexico, will become 'no go' zones for gringos. Am I being pessimistic--yes; do I hope that I am wrong--yes, again, but looking at the daily rush of events over the past 2 weeks---and lack of any reaction from Congress, I do fear the worst.

Currently drinking a marg at La Posada. I haven't been shot yet (by either the cartels or the US). The climbing is really fun and the hang is incredible. Still 10 days to go without dying, I'll give you an update later.

If I don't hear from you every 36 hours I'm sending in Delta force... Hahaha enjoy the trip! We'll be there Feb 7

There's a live band playing at Posada right now. The cartel is getting really clever, thinking I won't know it's them undercover. Maybe it's the tequila, but they sure know how to jam.

Also, tomorrow is market day. Plan your rest days around Friday & Tuesday market days, they are incredible.

Taylor is no longer with us. The cartel has taken a hold of him. He now works directly with them. Our theory is that the jam band infiltrated his mind. These are mad times, mad times. Stay away if you don’t want to succumb to the tacos and margaritas.

Sorry for the radio silence, I'm still recovering from the events of the past few days. Contrary to popular believe, I didn't get pulled into the cartel, bur rather went on a multi-day bender of karaoke and All-You-Can-Eat tacos at Leo's.

Temps are definitely warming up down here. For the hot days, head to Virgin Canyon. Not only is it cooler, but I've heard that the cartel members can't get past the Virgin Mary statue without turning to dust. Unfortunately that will still leave you open to drone strikes from the US, so make sure you wear your helmet.

Pro drone strike tips!

Glad to hear you're having a great time. Headed down Friday!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
