The board members of the SNCC hope you have had a great start in 2025! With this new year, comes elections and new board members. Please join us at our public meeting to find out more!

Public meeting:

When: 6:30 PM, Monday January 13th, 2025 (next week!)

Where: REI Boca Park

What: We have two primary topics to address: (1) The Red Rock Canyon Climbing Management Plan with the BLM, and (2) upcoming board elections.

(1) In partnership with the BLM, we have been working on a Climbing Management Plan for Red Rock Canyon. We would like to get input from the community on our efforts thus far.

(2) We have several board members stepping down, so we need you to step up! Alternatively, if you think you know someone who would be a great fit, nominate them! See below for the positions available. For further questions, please contact cory@southernnevadaclimberscoalition.org.

Who: You, and your climber friends!

Open SNCC Board Positions:

Volunteer Coordinator: Brainstorms and helps coordinate and schedule service projects with volunteers and land managers.

Secretary: Responsible for record keeping and maintaining minutes at meetings/events.

Social Media: Responsible for all social media and promotion.

Webmaster: Responsible for website maintenance and development.

Membership Coordinator: Maintains current member list and contact information, coordinates with Access Fund on membership issues, and encourages/manages renewals.

Events Coordinator: Responsible for organizing and coordinating planned events, will likely include creating committees and delegating responsibilities such as supplies, set-up, etc.

Forest Service Liaison: Helps the president keep in good communication with the Forest Service in Southern Nevada by helping to arrange meetings to discuss a broad range of topics relating to climbing such as access, education, and stewardship.

Bureau of Land Management Liaison: Helps the president keep in good communication with the BLM in Southern Nevada by helping to arrange meetings to discuss a broad range of topics relating to climbing such as access, education, and stewardship.

Wagbag Coordinator: Responsibilities include monitoring inventory and tracking usage of human waste disposal bags, ordering new bags, coordinating with volunteers to keep dispensers stocked

Member(s) at Large: Help at events, add input at board meetings and volunteer to take on tasks as needed. These are folks who can be relied on to fill in the gaps when they are needed.

Note: The positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Rebolting Director will also have candidates. These positions require previous board membership or board approval for consideration.

If possible, I would like to request again a way to join and support SNCC while bypassing the Access Fund's membership.  Appreciate the SNCC's hard work!

I recommend pushing for widening the road just before the Second Pullout.  The parking lot is very small.  You used to be able to parallel park along the shoulder of east side of the road.  The east side does drop off at too much slope.  However the west side of the road, just south of the pullout, has less slope so the shoulder could be widened and and parallel parking added.

Is there a way to get minutes from the meeting or just a summary? I am mainly interested updates on the Climbing Management Plan. And is there any way to then submit input if we were unable to attend the meeting?

Are you signed up for SNCC emails? They should be sending out an update and a way to submit feedback. I can follow up on here too if anyone finds that helpful

? I live in CA and make a periodic donation to sncc thru their website. It’s very easy. There is a link on the membership page that says “donate” and if you click that link, it takes me to a page where it says “ make a direct donation”. That is where I donate.
I don’t know if that makes me a “ member” but I get emails from them.

We have started trying to post meeting notes from public meetings on the website here:

What's your best guess as to the NEPA analysis cost and processing time? Also what's your guess as to the material and labor cost and construction schedule for that?

Next question: What should the flagger holding the "Slow" sign get paid per hour, and should they get benefits like medical care?

Last question: What should an annual pass to the National Parks cost?

Wonder the costs for all of this were when they ripped up SSQ parking lot only to add 12 spaces.

Hey! You made me count and now I'm upset.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
