Anyone have Beal Sunup ropes? How do you like them?
I’m in the market for a new set of double ropes this season. I’ve had two sets of Mammut 8.0mm and really liked them, but there’s a solid deal on Beal ropes right now.

Mostly use them for hard headpoint single pitch routes when I’m at home, but they’ll also see action on long routes.

I’ll also take any recs for good double ropes in the 7.5-8.5 range

I have a pair of Beal 8.5’s.  They aren’t the SunUp recycled ones, but they have been good ropes.  Good handling, tie well.  I wish they were smaller/lighter and had a middle mark.  I haven’t used them a ton as doubles.  Mine are single rated.

I also have an older Beal 9.2 Eco.  It isn’t 100% recycled, but was one of the original recycled material ropes.  It’s a bland shade of pea green but has been a real work horse.  It has suffered 6 years of abuse with very little fuzzing or wear.  Still ties and handles well.  Does get kinky at times.

We have two Beal jokers 9.1.  Bigger then what your looking for but nice Beal ropes. Would recommend.    Can be used as a single which has been good in parties of 3, can bring two followers up at the same time.  Also confidence inspiring to know each rope is rated in single fall situation.  If your far from the TH and have a problem with ropes getting cut or stuck on rappel, nice to know your other rope is good for lead.

As far as recycling of polymers go, I’ve heard in the trucking industry that some straps with recycled fibers don’t hold up as well as virgin.  This is just anecdotal but worth checking into lifespan.  The problem my understanding is sun exposure and degradation from UV.  As well as the problem is sourcing good quality recycled plastic flakes with low contamination.

As with much of the recycling industry, getting materials sorted without contamination is very difficult and expensive.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
