I get bad knee pain after a day of kicking into ice. Anybody else have that problem? If so, what did you do about it?

No, I don’t think I’m hitting them on the ice. It feels more like sore tendons or something like that.

Thanks for the link. I’ll check it out.

Hey Trevor, you might be kicking too hard. Have had friends do this and next day have tender knees.

Yeah maybe that’s it. I did take one of my front points off a couple trips back and I notice it’s easier to kick now.

I had knee pain/tiredness when I first started ice climbing. I often stretched my quads afterwards and that helped alleviate the pain.

Where does your knee hurt? Inside, outside, under knee cap, etc?

Best bang for buck is a good PT. They are more expensive than Chiros per appt but can diagnose more issues and fix more issues, including all the things a chiro can do.

Its probably a strength/soft tissue thing, especially if you don't kick much and are now swinging your leg with a big heavy boot and crampon hanging on it.

Thanks everyone who replied to this thread. I appreciate the help. I’ll start with these suggestions and see where it takes me.

I got some knee pain today after my first day (this season) out on ice. I didn't have any pain while climbing, and I didn't sustain any impact of knee against ice so I'm not sure what the deal is. Pain is 5 out of 10 when, say, climbing stairs. No discernible swelling, no noticeable tenderness. My guess (hope) is that the explanation is a combination of mediocre fitness and getting old.

Seconding knees over toes guy, so easy to do and really boosts knee confidence

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
