Mountain Equipment Oreus

Anyone have any miles on the new ME Oreus yet? Thoughts? |

Better than the rest, great insulation, great design, the tech they have in the insulation is better than anything else on the market atm. It's a fair bit warmer than the equivalent patagucci for about the same weight. |

I like mine a lot. Doesn't feel quite as warm as a Feathered Friends Eos which is similarly sized, but its synthetic so probably shouldn't be compared anyway. |

worn mine a few days now, thought I would share my initial review: Absolutely blew my expectations out of the water! I expected it to be warm and light but wow. I wore it as a belay jacket ice climbing the last two days in -5 - 10º F temperatures and was warm the entire time. My other layers were Patagonia Capeline Air, R1 Tech Face, and an OR Superstrand LT vest, and a hard shell. That is light layering for me and I do not run exceptionally warm. I am excited to continue testing this jacket and see what it can do but initial reaction is five stars. You can instantly feel it trapping and radiating heat when you put it on. While it is definitely not as warm as a Citadel, I feel it is about as warm as my BD Vision parka which is a full winter belay parka for not extreme temps/climate. The oversized hood fits over a helmet easily and the high cut on the front covers almost my entire face, extra cozy. I am 5’9, 150lb and went with a medium which feels like a great fit for putting over a light layering system or for summer rock climbing. If I wanted to use this in Alaska with more layers on I might go with a large? The medium was a bit snug when I tried to put it over my harness and ice clippers but still worked, just didn’t drape over on its own like a Citadel. The button at the bottom looked a bit flimsy at first but holds shockingly well, never once popped open, and was phenomenal for keeping the jacket down in place. If I absolutely had to find a critique, it would be it being a bit snug to go over ice clippers (super minimal issue) and I wouldn’t mind some fleece fabric on the inside where it covers your face. Overall cannot recommend highly enough. If you are on the fence IMO it is worth the price tag. Very excited to see what else ME does with this new insulation, hopefully some pants next! |

I wore mine on an extended climbing trip to Colorado and Vegas red rocks in December and early January. For me it's been amazing. Stunningly lightweight and warm, a true analog to down jackets in my opinion. The hardware on it is nice, zippers and pull strings are good. The material is soft and comfortable but pretty fragile. I wear it as an outer layer and it got some tears in it when I was doing some serious bushwhacking in red rocks through some shrub oaks that I really should have taken the jacket off for. But I planned on patching the jacket as I needed to when I bought it so I'm not bothered. Combined with a base layer and a lightweight mid layer it kept me warm down to 35 degrees f with strong winds. Good jacket, fragile, but you can always patch it. You get what you pay for. And for me it was worth the heafty price. |

That price feels like a ROI price. Likely see competitors make a similar tech soon. The tech doesn't seem that revolutionary based upon what little information around Aetherm's construction I have been able to dig up. |
|
I believe ME developed and has a patent (pending?) on Aetherm so not sure how soon competitors will join in. But agreed would be great to see the price go down! |

I like mine a lot. |

Are we feeling this is comparable to a DAS in warmth? |
|
I wore my buddies Das light yesterday and the Oreus was unquestionably warmer. I don’t have any experience with a regular Das unfortunately but my guess is it is the same size/weight to a Light but about as warm as a regular Das. The jacket I own that I can compare it to is a BD Vision, I think Oreus is same or slightly warmer |

It certainly is an athletic cut. A large was pretty tight on me, more of a base or mid-layer fit. Ultimately selling so I can get a bigger version or an Oreus vest. |
