Hi y’all! Been looking to buy a new harness and I can’t find many reviews on this one. I ordered it because I wasn’t too stoked on the other options at rei (I had a store credit or would’ve gone to a local shop). It seems old reviews complained about the small gear loops but that maybe this has been fixed? I do mostly trad climbing, single pitch as often as multi. Tiny little gear loops might be a pain, but big floppy ones would be too… my other question is sizing. One person mentioned it running large. Saw a Reddit post that people mentioned having a narrow waist but big thighs and this was their favorite harness. I ordered a small anyways after doing my measurements. My waist measurement is 28” and my thigh is 23”. For the small, my thigh might be too big according to their chart. But I was stuck between choosing to be in a harness that fits snugly, or one where I’m on the small side of it fitting and it has a lot of loose ends. thoughts on sizing, usefulness? I know I already bought it but I should’ve done this first
I have similar struggles with being awkwardly between sizes. Even a relatively small 5-10 pound weight fluctuation and I will often wish i had a different size haha. I decided to order the bigger size and just have long tails on the straps. I never tried the smaller size on for comparison, but so far I have been happy with the size choice. It leaves me plenty of room to accomodate winter layers. I have a 26 inch waist and 22 inch thighs and ordered the small. I have the legs loops cinched nearly all the way down and have at least 3 inches of webbing tail, so I think you'll be fine with 23 inch thighs. The gear loops do feel a bit small. For me the issue is not storage space but that they hang down significantly less low than gear loops on other harnesses I've had, so I'm constantly grabbing in the wrong place for gear. It was really annoying the first day or two, but I feel like I've gotten used to it. I haven't used the harness for trad climbing yet though.
I just bought this harness today because I needed a smaller one the XS actually fit me the best unfortunately it only has four gear loops. When I got home I was able to fit my double rack with no issue and it felt really good! I like that the gear loops are fairly large and plastic I’m going to red rocks this weekend for some multiputch trad so I’m hoping I’m still stoked about it.
