I am just curious why there is a fixed rope hanging horizontally from the top of the Beacon Towers climbs (Excalibur etc) and running allll the way several hundred feet to the left (west) to the top of the ledges above Windsurfer? I've never seen a rope fixed horizontally for such long distance and I can't understand why?
Also, I would love to know how to access climbs like Borderline, Excalibur, Beekeeper Apprentice etc from the top down. If anyone can explain where to rap from on the trail to get to Grassy Ledges or near these other places I mentioned that would be great.
In the past, I've always ascended (TR solo) a fixed line from the ground UP to the Beacon Towers ledge to climb Borderline, Excalibur, etc. Rapping in from the trail might actually not save you a ton of time. You can also climb Blowout to set up TRs on those climbs. I might have a photo somewhere of the rap station that's accessed from the hiker trail.
Ask @OG about the horizontal fixed lines. I don't think they are his, but he might know the story

Thanks for the help!
Quite the sight. I wondered that as well, however, the bottom of the rope had blown over to the Windsurfer-Free For All area and simply got hung up. It wasn't fixed at the bottom, only the top. @ the end of January someone pushed the lower part off where it was hung up so that it was near verticle free hanging. It was still there the day before the rock closed for the Pergrines, and had at least one visible area were it had worn through to the core. I don't know who owned it, but several folks I know called me to complain about it being left there like so much trash. Hopefully the owners got it off before the area closed today (Feb 1), otherwise, it won't even be fit for a rug when the rock reopens in July after the winter winds hit and it spends all winter rubbing back and forth.
