Climber flipping upside down while lowering

Are there any tricks to getting yourself back to right side up if you accidentally flip upside down while be lowered after a climb….?

For context, my 7 year old daughter was recently climbing the kids wall at Ouray Ice park, she miraculously made it to the top wearing snow boots with crampons strapped to them, and using some smaller grivel tools.   Anyway, as she was being lowered, one of her crampons got stuck on the ice and she somehow flipped upside down.

She held on to her tools and was lowered about 10 feet in that state, and a nearby climber was able to take her tools from her so she could grab the rope and pull herself up.

Does anyone have any tips or techniques for this situation?  What should the belayer do?  What should the climber do?

Use a chest harness, even crossed webbing chest harness would work.

Ditto a chest harness. For someone that small,  take std. 24" runner twist to form figure 8. With X at their back, put arm through each loop securing each in the front with a carabiner which is clipped to the rope. One can also grit hitch two slings together to make chest harness.

Im assuming your kiddo was in a waist harness? I’ve kept my 7 yo in a full body for this exact reason. She’s tiny, and the full body provides a higher attachment point to keep her vertical.

As others said, if you don’t want to change harnesses, just use a chest harness.

Will look into full body harness for my daughter... thanks for the tip.

However, if this does happen, does anyone have any tips for getting yourself back to right side up?

It's never happened to me, so just brainstorming here, but maybe do the reverse of what caused the problem?  Use a tool to reach for the ice and get enough purchase to flip the body around the harness axis?  Obviously, that could pose a serious risk of injury to shoulders, etc. if being lowered with any speed.  I hope there would be good communication between belayer and climber at all times.  Otherwise, ride it out and hope for the best?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
