Looking for partner
|
I am looking for a rock climbing partner for a day in August. My name is Billy and I’ve been rocking climbing for the past year and climbing in high intermediate levels. My family and I will be in Yosemite from 8/2-8/9/25, but unfortunately I am the only climber which is why it’s imperative I see what my options are for a partner in advance. We will be staying about 20 minutes outside of the park but will be in the park the majority of the time. I am looking for a partner to climb the “Regular Northwest Face of Half Dome”. There are two conditions on how I want to climb the route. I am looking for a partner that is willing to attempt the climb in a day, and free climb it without aid. Making the rating a 5.12a. If there is anyone or you know anyone that wants more information or is willing to work with me on this please message (605) 569-2921. I am willing to work with anyone that can help me accomplish this. |

Might help your partner search if you explained your climbing experience a little more and what long or difficult routes you have done considering that your only two ticks on your profile are moderate sport. Have you climbed hard trad before, for example, and are you highly proficient at trad multipitch and moving fast? These are questions people will want to know to take you seriously enough to call. I wish you the best in your climbing adventures, that's a noble goal. Cheers |

I have done a good amount of climbing, I only struggle with finding partners especially around home. I’ve climbed many multipitch climbs in Custer sd, and I have plans to climb big walls in the summer prior. I am climbing devils tower in march, i will be climbing some in Colorado in may, and i might do some big wall climbs in wind river range in late July. I plan on working towards this climb and was just looking for someone that could help me up the wall. |

I am also bad at ticking my climbs because I mainly forget. The main worry for me after I climb is making sure I journal it in my climbing journal |

It seems that you don't have much experience with Yosemite, I'm not trying to be condescending, just trying to give you some friendly comments: 1) Yosemite valley in August is awful. Temps may be 100+ degrees. Often there is wildfire smoke to deal with as well. There will be very few climbers in the valley at that time, usually Yosemite climbers are up in Tuolumne meadows. This is probably where you actually want to climb during your family vacation. Lots of cool and fun things to climb up there. 2) It seems you have maybe 1-3 years of climbing experience? Unless you are a phenom, on sighting the NWF of Half-Dome, all free, in a day, in full summer heat, with zero Yosemite experience is probably an unrealistic goal. Many find their first time climbing in Yosemite to be a humbling experience, as the style is very different that what you encounter at the gym or most crags in the US. 5.8 might feel more like a 5.10 at your home crag until you get used to the style and rock. |

Thank you! It’s really hard to find this information or help, do you know an area or some routes I should look at for August? |

Any of the classics listed on the meadows MP page are wonderful -- https://www.mountainproject.com/area/105833384/tuolumne-meadows For moderates, the regular route on Fairview Dome is good one and Matthes Crest is a unforgettable experience Good luck! |
