Entire canyon closed for hours, likely jump from Mission? The area seems pretty sketchy to me but an impressive rescue effort, the second one I know of. A few years back I actually saw a Base jumper hit the Little Eiger, his chute fortunately snagging a tree and preventing a likely fatal fall. Clear Creek is no Lauterbrunnen Valley, that's for sure.

Please tell me it wasn't Caylor. . .

I’ve seen several people successfully jump from the Mission Wall (there’s even videos of it on YouTube so idk why that newsman said it may be impossible) but having to take a hard right to land on that strip below wall of the 90s always seemed sketchy as hell to me. Figured something like this might happen.

Well, the reporter also emphasized that cell service in the canyon is "very, very spotty," which is simply not true. Cell service is pretty great in Clear Creek, and I have literally made a phone call while on Mission Wall. So I certainly wouldn't trust what the reporter says about technical aspects of a sport they are unfamiliar with, as per usual.

FWIW, cell service used to be iffy at best until they added those new cell towers relatively recently. So, the news folks had old info.

Well, I've had reliable cell service there for several years (at least!), so it doesn't seem so recent that they should get the info that wrong while emphasizing it so much. At the very least, they should have been able to see that they had cell service where they were doing the shot, so it couldn't be that spotty!

Since when is the news reporting accurate? I mean, ever?

That’s not how I interpreted it, but whatever….

Usually more accurate than the well-informed and intensely researched opinions on offer at MP.

Ha ha ha. No way. He lives in Grand Junction now anyway. The thing you have to realize about Hank is that he is the old guy who base jumps. All of the other guys are gone. Clear Creek has dozens of cell towers in the bottom of the canyon, so the cell service is quite good as a lot of you know. And that is definitely Mission Wall. Only climbed half way up that. Hopefully the guy who jumped recovers well from his injuries.
