Stoney Point Wet Rock Warning
John… lots of folks park on the wide dirt area on the other side of Topanga…on Santa Susana and cross using the painted median. Be careful |

Well it’s the start of winter- it rained some last night, it’s raining now and to my dismay, as I drive past Stony, there are a bunch of folks bouldering at Pile-Ups. Maybe I’ll stop by when I’m done with my business in the valley. I find that most people climbing when it’s wet don’t know about our sandstone. It turns to mud fairly easily when it’s wet and takes time to dry out and regain its strength. Please remember the rule of thumb- if the ground is muddy or wet beneath the surface so is the stone- please go somewhere else. Look up thread and you will find directions to the nearest granite out in the Antelope Valley. Enjoy the winter rain, we can use it. 11-23-2024 |

11-24-24 It rained hard last night. |
11-26-2024 Yes it rained, a lot, and is still raining now… Please consider Stony Point closed- for now. |

12-5-24 The recent rain, coupled with some cold weather (by SoCal standards) and a weak Santa Anna have caused the conditions to be perfect at Stoney…. The stone is grippy right now. Come and get it |
Hi… to whom just asked the question, on Redit, about - is it dry? Will others be out? |
12-19-24 Because of the cool temperatures, dry winds, low humidity- Stony is perfect right now. I’m surprised not to see “the light crew” out there. Bring a jacket
When you do get some precipitation, please just forward it on to AZ! Its been so long I can’t remember when it last rained at my place in Phx. |

Dec 27-2024 Woke up this morning and it’s raining!
1-26-25. The rain is back. And we need it. Finally the pesky fires will be extinguished. Look up thread for good granite alternatives. Climb on |
2-5-25. It’s raining hard and steady today. Time to hit the desert spots
2-6-25 Still raining…. The desert granite calls. Please respect the weak ass sandstone hopefully your project will be there when it dries out. Look up thread for some alternatives. 2 weeks ago my buddies and I went looking around the Native Culture center- to the west side of it- we discovered 5-6 way old school roots, judging by the Leeper hangers. Top ropable (is that a word?) cause you can walk up the back- bring some pro and runners. Pretty fun day out |

2-13-24 I was at Stoney, walking around in the mud the other day. A bunch of people were bouldering….. Some folks don’t get it. Just because you drove down from Bishop doesn’t mean you get to destroy our fragile problems. At least now, it’s pouring rain so maybe nobody will try to climb. After this, it’s going to take at least a week to 10 days of sun to get it back in shape. Stay dry all. Visit the desert. Please feel free to DM me for recommendations. Later |

There are so many good places to climb & boulder on the outskirts of L.A. & Guy knows most all of them. |
Crazy downpour this evening. I wouldn’t touch Stoney with a stick for 3 weeks |

SoCal Choss wrote: You forgot to add… granite crags to the east Boulders also to the south, north and west… Granite everywhere But Choss, the snow is hiding them. I’m too old to go play in the snow, I can’t use my fingers, arms or anything. This weekend we are going to SR178, AKA The Fortress, Burnt Granola, Scodie Spire…. Plus tons more. We are so lucky to have what we have… Please give Stony a chance to dry out, your project may survive the winter if nobody puts on the flakes … Later |
