Yukon Gold / Goldline Approach Beta

Looking to head up to Yukon Gold this weekend. Never having been to North Bald Cap I’m looking for some beta on the approach.

• How much of success pond road is closed in the winter? Is is roped off, or just not plowed? Is it passable with 4x4 and snow tires?
• Where do you park in winter when the road is closed?
• The MP notes just say, “5 miles up success pond road from Berlin follow a derelict logging trail…” Does anyone have any further info on that?
• It seems from route descriptions, comments, and tick notes that there are two different approaches. One is much easier than the other. Can anyone comment on those?

The road is plowed but at some point on the logging road you won’t be to go any further based on snow amounts. I was supposed to go yesterday but something came up so I don’t have any current beta. You‘ll figure out where everybody is stopping and parking. On a weekend you’ll most likely see other cars.

Lotsa people going back there so you’ll see a boot pack. Most use the new trail.

The old trail went near some water that had beaver ponds and became impassable until someone cut a trail around them. That’s still the old way. My partner and I followed a game trail coming down a couple years ago that connected to a summer trail. We came back, cleared it a bit and flagged it. Someone else painted markers now and it can’t be missed. That’s the shorter more direct approach.

Got some beta that Willard was in poor shape so didn’t head over there. Went to smuggs instead.

It’s still on the list for this year though!
