Camping for WMV Ice Fest Weekend

Looking for info on camping around N Conway for the last weekend in January for the MWV Ice Fest since it seems like other options are either pricey or booked up. I found online that the Hancock campground is open in the winter but around an hour out of town. Not the end of the world if that's the only option, but I'm interested to hear any other options (allowed or low% of getting kicked out).

Thanks!

Check out these pull offs https://freecampsites.net/#!76775&query=sitedetails

Also, if it’s not already booked, the Conway hostel is pretty great, reasonably priced (compared to other indoor options), and there’s probably gonna be a lot of other climbers there.

The road is closed for the winter its a 2 mile walk into the first site, then each site is about a mile apart

It's open in the off-season too

It’s not open in the off season.  It’s legal to stay at any wMNF campground when closed.  So you can stay there and don’t have to pay but it’s not maintained.  The only reason the parking lot is somewhat plowed is because the state uses it for a plow turnaround

They may say different on their website, but I’ve slept in my car in the Walmart parking lot many many times in north Conway. And I’ve seen several others there at the same time. I just make sure to go in and buy some snacks and drinks so they get business from me, and park way back in the lot after when I go to sleep.

If you want a room and shower I’ve also stayed at the Saco River Motor lodge on multiple occasions. It’s maybe 10 minutes outside North Conway and really basic and quite dated. But it was clean and functional.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
