Updates to "Tick Breakdown"

I wanted to see more details and granularity in the "Tick Breakdown" so I made these changes:

  • The charts for "Pitches by Year", "Pitches by Month" and "Rock Routes By Grade" are now "stacked bar charts" that use different colors for sport, trad, and boulders.  Hover to see which is which.
  • "Rock Routes by Grade" and "Boulders by Grade" now have more granularity.
  • Tapping on columns gives you all the routes that match anything in that column (trad & sport & boulders).

Here's the OLD version:

And here's the same set of ticks in the NEW version:

Oh hell yeah. That looks great! Now we just need a way to distinguish between attempts and sends. Maybe a drop down filter?

I'd like to see "Ice Routes by Grade". Maybe a setting which ones you want to see.

In my case i don't boulder but I climb lots of ice.

edit: I like what you did. It looks great just a little change would be nice.

Nice improvement!

Thinking of more graphs I would like to see in the future, if there could be a graph that shows best onsight/flash/redpoint for the year, for routes, and for boulders, that would be cool!

And maybe have a Drop-down filtering option on the graphs you currently have, to chose displaying rotes (vs pitches), or sends vs hangdog?

Thanks Nick! Anything you do to improve these tick breakdown sections is very appreciated.

I'll echo rocknice2 and say adding ice to the breakdown would be sweet. Separating trad from TR would also be neat, if it isn't too much trouble.

Couple things:

It looks like Trad and Top-Rope share the same color designation.

Some of the numbers don't add up. If you go to my ticks and look at the bar for September 2020, you will see 1 Boulder, 19 Trad, and 2 Sport. However when clicking on the bar to open up the list, it only shows 16 ticks. Oddly it looks like the rest of the months are fine.

Anyway, lilttle things.

And thank you for the work you're doing.

I believe its showing pitches on the monthly graph so even though you have 16 ticks (1 boulder, 2 sport, 13 Trad/TR) since one of your trad routes was 7 pitches you have 19 pitches of Trad/TR.

Some of those requests are surprisingly tricky since they depend on optional data.  Not exactly what anyone asked...  but I broke out Ice (which includes Mixed climbs) in the Monthly and Yearly charts.  rocknice2's page is a good example.

Thanks Nick, nice addition. I hope you could still keep in mind an "Ice be Grade" bar graph for future updates.

This is great! It would be awesome if the "rock routes by grade" allowed you to filter by year. You could see what this year's route pyramid looks like relative to two years ago, etc

great improvement thanks

I can see that I've done exactly 0 ice routes this month... strange? I've actually never climbed or ticked an ice route - I assume this shouldn't happen? Can you make it so climbing types you haven't climbed that month don't show up when you hover over the top of the bar? Using chrome, if that helps.

Otherwise, this and the pie-chart map update is awesome! Thanks Nick!

Nice new features! It would be really great if you could filter by unique and redpoint/send in the "by grade" break downs. Maybe just treat missing optional data as a non match for filtering purposes?

A small update to make the bars easier to click on would be nice. Trying to click on a bar that only has 1 tick using mobile is nearly impossible without zooming in, which I can't do in the app. Maybe having the grades under the graph also be clickable would work.

Thanks for the update! One thing I noticed was that when I click on the bar over the "V12+" segment, it always says "0 ticks" even though the person definitely has ticked routes V12 or above. Other than that I think it's great.

I've noticed a similar issue for routes >=5.14-

Hey guys,

Is there a way to see all routes "I've" starred - For 15 years Ive been using the star function as a sort of a Tick function as its quicker.... And easy to see when you revisit a crag after a long break to see which routes you have and have not done.

Hey Chuck,

At the bottom of the Community tab for your MP account, you should see your Route Scores (star ratings). I think those are sorted from New > Old Highest star rating to lowest. There's no View All or Export option, but hoping that's close to what you're looking for. Let me know!

Edit to add: User let me know sorting is by highest star rating to lowest. This used to be newest > oldest. Ideally we'd let users decide so I've drafted a ticket to add that in the future.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
