Was considering a trip in January to climb Malibu Creek and Echo Cliffs. How are the wildfires affecting these areas?

Wildfires have hit some parts of Malibu Creek and surrounding areas hard in recent years, so you might encounter closures or trail damage. Check the latest updates from local parks or climbing organizations to see if access is restricted or conditions are impacted. January weather could also make things tricky, so plan accordingly!

Echo should be unaffected. Not quite sure about malibu canyon though, might be tight.

Live map of fire perimeter and rock climbing areas in the vicinity: https://www.arcgis.com/apps/instant/basic/index.html?appid=625bcbedd5a24b4a84d354a339a3838f

Fire perimeter is sourced from the National Interagency Fire Center. Climbing crags in the vicinity were mapped manually. Note that crags in the area may be missing. I mapped the ones I knew.

As far as fire activity, it’s pretty much over and in the mop up stages.   The cooler moist air of this weak frontal system really slowed the fire down.
go and enjoy.  It shouldn’t be an issue.
