Disallow ticks "in the future"

Hi MP developers, can you put in a validation that ticks with a future date should not be allowed? The only guess I have for folks who do that is to have their ticks sit at the very top of the list above everyone else's, but that seems dishonest and annoying. It's a minor problem, but should also be an easy fix. Thanks!

who cares how other people tick problems. ive never done this. i cannot imagine a scenario where someone doing impacted my life or anyone else's life in a meaningful way.

there are people all over the internet who think they are wizards or soldiers or run a virtual farm or are in a relationship with some AI bot. its all entertainment that doesnt matter.

Speak for yourself.  "Future-tickers", or FTs as we call them, have a deep and long lasting impact on my user-experience here.
Who could be so foul as to diminish the ticks of today with their ticks of tomorrow?

The ramifications are wild.  FT an onsite then PT a send because one already climbed it in the FUTURE and boom…onsite is gone in the FUTURE.

Dangerous stuff

Leave my aspirational ticks alone!

Belay On do you have bots that go around liking your posts? It's rare to see the first post get more likes than the second on here.

Made me laugh!

I had recently future-ticked one of my sends, without meaning to.

I was just putting in ticks on Monday for the previous weekend, and fat-fingered the year to 2025, when all I meant to do was change the date to 1 day earlier.

I corrected it later, when I saw it (and I only saw it because I was filling out survey that asked about how many pitches I had climbed in a year, and I went into my ticks to see). But if I hadn’t gone to look at the number of pitches, I would have had that silly tick for December 2025 in my tick list…

I was surprised when I discovered it, because I had assumed that it would have been impossible to input a future date in the first place. It’s a silly little bug, didn’t bother me, but hey, as far as site improvements go, this is a minor-but-valid fix.

Has anybody named a climb “Redpoint”? It would be a gnarly onsight, especially as a future tick.

Looks like they fixed it.

That's nice. If that's the case, I guess people will not be able to accidentally or intentionally put a future date on their ticks any more. I know many such ticks are also the result of some MP bug.

I wonder if the admins have a plan to fix the existing bogus entries. If you spot check any popular route, you can still see something like this that clogs up the top of the tick list. My proposal for an easy cleanup is to remove the dates (leave them empty) or put in an old (bogus) date such Jan 1, 1900 so these ticks show up at the bottom of the tick list. The owners can edit their tick to fix the date if they care.

I believe this is related to the bug discussed here ( mountainproject.com/forum/t…). Thanks for flagging and providing some suggestions for how to handle the current future ticks.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
