I know that this is a climbing forum, but I figure a lot of Utah climbers are also backcountry skiers, so I am posting this ski related thing.
Just got a new guidebook to backcountry skiing around Salt Lake. It's large format, with beautiful aerial photos and lots of great photography. It's a "coffee table" book and also a guidebook.
Nice book!! Are ski lines rated in terms of difficulty?
No.
There really is not any description of the lines at all.
It's just an atlas, with lots and lots of aerial photographs from a number of different angles.
It would be most useful as a supplement to a guidebook and map. It does a great job of allowing you to visualize the ski terrain. (I sometimes have difficulty picturing what the terrain represented in a topgraphical map would look like. This book is a great help for that purpose.
There is an on-line map coming out (supposedly next week) that shows the uphill routes. It's only $5 if you've got the book ($15 if you don't.)
Great, the last thing the wasangles needs is another guidebook especially written by an out of towner. Just gonna put more folks in terrain they shouldn’t be in.

This is not going to change anything. All the resources ever needed to get into trouble have been widely available for years.
Besides, it’s a book. People don’t read books anymore. They just put them on the coffee table so that other people will think they read.
