Wildfire at the res - great barrington

Active wildfire on east mountain (the res, sunnyside, darkside)

Unfortunate situation. Hopefully, the rains will help minimize the fires a little. 

Has the fire actually spread far enough north to hit the res? I know it's been moving down towards Sheffield, but I've been having trouble finding out how far north it's gotten

Yes, the fire was south of the main area but spread through most of the climbing as well as spreading south into sheffield. The great Barrington fire department has issued a temporary closure of all climbing on east mountain. That means the res, sunnyside, mira la vista, and the dark side.  The rain did not extinguish the fire, which was estimated at 1200 acres yesterday. It did slow the rate of spread but they are expecting the fire to continue burning until winter sets in.main message, climbing in this area is temporarily closed, please let fire professionals do their job and stay out.

Monday wildfire update

"People are urged, for their safety, to stay away from the entire fire area despite the fire being under control.

“The entire fire area is dangerous to be in,” the update said. “This reaffirms the need for everyone to STAY CLEAR of the area.”"

Wildfire is contained, but is still burning.
