Request: Mosquito Net Tent/Shelter for Wind River Range?

Request: looking for ideas for a mosquito net shelter, either home-made or off the shelf. Planning out my 4th trip to the Winds. As everyone already knows, the mosquitoes can be terrible. Once we get down from a climb, any time at camp is spent with a headnet and gloves on (somehow the bastards still manage to get you), or just sucking it up and getting bitten (sometimes the buzzing is the worst part). This is particularly annoying while cooking. This time around, I'm thinking about trying to rig some sort of mosquito net shelter to lounge and cook in. I'm reluctant to cook in our normal sleeping tent in case it encourages animals to chew on it. Also, we usually stake our tent in a spot protected from the wind, which sometimes compromises the view. It would be nice to have a safe space to lounge in on those post-climb evenings and watch the sun on the mountains.
So far I have the following ideas:
Thanks for any suggestions! |

Not quite as cheap as your pop-up tent, but probably a touch more durable: https://hilleberg.com/eng/products/shelters/mesh-box I've never tried it, but the Hilleberg stuff I've used has been extremely well made. |

If you have trees: S2S nano pyramid net. The 2p version with the spreader bar is less than 5oz. https://seatosummit.com/products/nano-mosquito-pyramid-net?variant=7896099029020#product-description If you don’t: Oware makes tarps with mesh sides, which are primo cook tents. They also have a floorless mesh pyramid. https://bivysack.com/shop/ols/categories/shelter-net-tarp-16 |

I've cooked in the Sea to Summit two person net. Promptly put a big hole in it! Since the netting is so thin it doesn't take much heat to melt it. It's designed to sleep in, so there's a bungee on the bottom instead of stake out points causing it to sag inwards. You might be able to stake it out and make the netting taut to create more interior space. |

HMG mids have mosquito inserts available. Ideal for cook tents, we use them on trips in AK. Light, bomber, inherently waterproof, expensive. Great to have a place the entire group can hang together out of the weather/bugs. |

BD also makes a bug liner for their mids that you can pitch alone: https://www.blackdiamondequipment.com/en_US/product/mega-bug-4p-tent/ you'll need the pole if you don't have a tent, so include that in the cost to purchase. Heavier than the HMG, but cheaper too, and still under your 5lb limit. |

Mosquito net for bed on Amazon, 15$ , less than 1lbs 6.5ft tall so you can stand in and it's sort of 8x8ft, can even make it wider if you sacrifice a bit of headroom stake the corners wider. Just get creative with sticks, hiking poles, trees or whatever feature you can tie the top corners to, just bring plenty of paracord. Used that set up multiple times and works great, buy the black version, it's nicer to see thru for the views. https://www.amazon.com/Mindsoft-Mosquito-Mosquiteros-Rectangular-Dormitory/dp/B0DFYHXJKB/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=IZTC40TSUTLX&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.3fj82jZBuwAm0Tsm2fQ5apOISBu_jNU15R-oNTeR4Ewe3AEFdghPz1O8Z2_j_IRBgGaWADSQUrcRDLARHA6LNfhAkM2C1F2ph7wN6_bK8X864uGo0Za2AySOPfFmeDCF3yXMdCYY-qqLK48Ci1OK07JU3rzjsFPiyMPPwl6GAPvn_qPSYIy7LgiOJz1d7MMImQ9Ws11LkkOVEaCbElppvw.O_LUFcaYoMY8We4Bv2VN9PHFYeXmcbXqTNczX6S0Nq0&dib_tag=se&keywords=bed%2Bmosquito%2Bnet&qid=1732375045&sprefix=bed%2Bmosquito%2B%2Caps%2C647&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1&th=1 |
