Continuing Lori’s
Carl, nice send and reverse send! That’s a long climb! The Tyson fight went just about as good for Mike as could be expected. Jake threw many punches, they didn’t look that solid, but that’s all it took to rack up the points. At 58, Tyson is just a “ normal boxer” now. That’s actually a pretty amazing accomplishment! When boxing someone less than half your age, training every day and with a neck the size of a thick tree trunk I didn’t expect Mike to hold his own. Mike is truly a legend. |

When you look at it from a former fighters perspective it went exactly as I suspected it would. Glorified sparing session with huge payday. Mike looked old and slow with poor timing. Dont get me wrong. He is in amazeing shape for 58 but he is still 58 and his timing is great for 58 but terrible when compared to what it was at 20 when he was a beast. Additionally Its really difficult to knock people out with 14oz TRAINING gloves. This was a glorified sparing session that made them both a shit ton of money. Training gloves are bulky pillows offering much more surface to cover up with. Its much harder to get clean shots through. When you do get through your fist has a bunch of padding on it. That footage of tyson hammering a sparing partner into the canvas keep in mind the guy getting beat was payed to get beat. The only clean sleepy time knockouts that I have personally witnessed in thousands of hrs of gym wars came from spinning hammer fists while kick boxing. The spinning hammer fist you land either with the hammer part of the glove, little padding or the forearm no padding. I got most of my stoppages with liver kicks. I am glad Mike got his big payday and apparently did not get seriously pounded. He really dosent need to get hit in the head anymore. Not like he is the brightest bulb in the room as he is now. Those training gloves still concuss you ( not like an 8 or 10 oz fighting glove) and you take a ton of head shots during daily sparring. It's not a brain healthy activity |

The "fight" if you can call it that, was a publicity stunt farce that was only intended to line each other's pockets. Paul earned 40 million and Tyson 20 million for playing pat a cake- pat a cake with each other for only 16 minutes, 8x2 minute rounds of light sparring only. Neither landed a punch that hurt the other and Iron Mike's legs looked like they were stuck in mud. I should have gone to bed after the women's fight which was epic and the most entertaining match up on the card last night. Carry on... |

I was especially captivated watching these two ladies fight.
|

Lori, those 2 big boobed ladies (enhanced?) are what in boxing and pro wrestling are called round card girls. Their job is to parade around the ring between rounds holding a large card that has the coming round number on it, and provide eye candy to the hetero males in attendance. Standard operating procedure for decades. Carry on... |

Kind of a shame that the last post of #31 was Carl in his sexy tights, soon to be forgotten in yesterday's papers of MP. |

Yup, that's it Ring Girls. My bad. |
|

Most often the ring girls are local strippers/ sex workers. Sad story but maybe it,s easy money for them. I hope so. It's already come out that Jake carried Tyson. Didn't hit him any more than what he needed to win. Glad that he did that. It would have made Jake look really bad if he knocked him out. As it stands he gave Tyson some good work and a huge payday. Guy the UFC is actually pretty bad right now as well. Dana pretty much chooses who will be champion. Jones should have been stripped for not fighting the interim champion. Dana finally caved under pressure today and announced that the winner will have to fight Tom but meanwhile Jones has held up the heavyweight division for two years without a fight and when he finally fights tonight it's not going to be the interim champion. |

Brandt Allenwrote: Oh I saved the shot… Boxing at one time was a real sport. Nowadays it’s as fake as pro wrestling. I wish Boxing would get back to the days of glory, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray, Joe Frazer etc. It all went to hell when anyone with some cash, could start up a sanctioning body, have a different “Champion” who picks unqualified opponents once per year if that. If they adopted the “rules of UFC” where the UFC decides who the next opponent will be and they must defend the title within a certain time frame. That would make Boxing Great Again. Then we could have epic fights again. Lori- I’m prying for Tony and his struggles. Sounds extremely serious.
The next few years will be entertaining. @Carl - Funny you say that summer has arrived in your neck of the woods. Here in Moorpark, yesterday was cold ( by my standards) and it got down into the hi 30’s!! The Farmers have had a tough time of it lately, with the fire and all. So I see we have some “new faces ” Welcome! I sincerely hope you all have some climbing experience and are able to add something valuable to Lori’s journey. We do talk about lots of subjects- Gardening, cold water immersion, grandkids, diet, crags being closed, doctors and even bouldering and just about anything else that strikes our fancy. Later all |

Guy Keeseewrote: Guy, here's Buttigieg's history from Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Buttigieg I'm curious if you think Trump, or Ronald Reagan for that matter, are/were qualified to be President? edit - I wasn't familiar with the name Rachel Levine, but here's her background: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Levine I'm guessing you object to her being transgender, but correct me if you have another perspective. Edit - thanks for replying below that you don’t have this bias, Guy. You didn’t explain why you think she’s unqualified, however And Lloyd Austin - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lloyd_Austin |

Back to politics, I’m waiting for what deporting only 1M people “to start with” will look like, and if we plan to threaten the worlds largest economy with nuclear annihilation will do to real estate prices in USA cause we seriously underestimate their capabilities? My retirement depends upon the latter. |

My challenge at this age is to choose my climbing adventures carefully. Not a day goes by that I don’t think I should be in Yosemite or Tahoe or Colorado. Or I should be focusing more on crack Climbing here or some extreme slab climbing. It’s always “slow down, be reasonable, make it last.” One new leg of my journey is my intense interest in the history of Joshua Tree – – having met most of the ghosts of the Climbers of this place now I want to know who lived here way before that. For some reason this most recent project of mine is connected to the native American past. Not only is this rock a place to climb, but I feel like there were people here before and it’s a sacred mission to find out. —- Guy, thank you for your prayers for Tony. It has been very serious. I still don’t know what to make of it. After the first surgery, where he hemorrhaged so badly and then was sent home, he was in excruciating pain here at home for 10 more days before I took him to the ER. From the ER he was transferred down to Eisenhower and had another surgery on his leg (because that’s where all the blood from his hemorrhage had pooled). . After a few more days in the hospital, his leg burst open and bled profusely. That’s when the wound VAC was brought in… and he was sent to a nursing home. Somehow the wound VAC never made the trip. Nor did any discharge papers. So frantic calls all over the place found another wound VAC for him. Since Mark wrote, I have tried to refrain any judgment on this surgeon, but I’ve never seen a doctor be so AWOL. He has no after hours phone or answering service and no one could get a hold of him. Tony has lost close to 30 pounds which is actually a good thing, but it just happened in the worst way. He will probably remain in the nursing home for at least another couple weeks. Tony has been sending me romantic songs from back in the day. It started with me mentioning the Santana song Soul Sacrifice . Clearly this is not a song he was familiar with and he flooded me with oldies soul songs”.. so I decided he should hear it in the nursing home. It wouldn’t be possible to sleep through that song. Nor is it romantic. |

Lori…. Soulful love songs…. Santana? I would have figured Frank Sinatra, Righteous Brothers or ???? Don’t kid yourself- I answered your first post about an Old Lady starting climbing at the tender age of 68???

Guy Keeseewrote: I apologize for offending you, Guy. That was not my intention. I posted the Wikipedia links simply because it tells some of the background of the people you listed as “unqualified“. You haven’t mentioned why you think they are not fit to hold those positions. I did not like Pete Buttigieg until he supported antitrust and started holding the airline industry accountable after the Southwest fiasco. Previous to that I thought he was sympathetic to corporations due to his McKinsey background and inaction. |

Lori. So sorry to hear of all the suffering Tony is going through. Hope he heals up quick. I was very impressed with Butiligs resume. don't know anything about how good a job he is doing but based on the resume he seems very qualified. Opening day of deer season. I don't take it seriously but like to use it as an excuse to explore places and get in shape for ice season. I also have a freezer and with uncertain employment situation for the winter I could use the food, I was out there sitting at 0 dark 30 but by mid morning I had started to meander. I decided to get across this stream. Did not look too bad if one was going to jump from the right side bank to the sandbar in the middle. Looked good on paper but when I landed on the edge of the sandbar it was soft instead of firm. My boots sunk in with my momentum going forward. The middle of the sand/mud bar was frozen and stopped my shins dead causing me to faceplant into the water on the other side. Rifle was out in front of me held in both hands to break my fall. Slammed it into the water and the sand packing the action with mud and sand. Fortunately I had eschewed a fragile modern scoped rifle for my very robust trusty 81year old lend lease Lee Enfield that I have had since I was 14years old. Bummed I didn't get pictures but I was busy. Far enough out there that getting wet was not a good idea so first order of business was to get myself in a stable relatively dry position. Then I completely submerged my antique in clear water swishing it around until it was clean enough to remove the bolt and check to be certain that the bore was unobstructed. Then I re assembled it and explored the new shore that I had never been to.. After A bit it occurred to me that in order to get home for some breakfast I must re ford the stream. I found a much better spot where I could rock hop. Carl will likely recognize this.I made it home for breakfast and a proper cleaning. then I went for a drive and saw some antique chainsaws. Then I went for another meander with my gun. Saw lots of moose sign. I would not shoot a moose unless I was starving to death or it was trying to kill Bernie... ended up tromping through my favorite beaver swamp. Its a lot easier and more fun on skis found the top of a cliff with a view and a new memorial sat there for a bit waiting for Bambi to jump into my freezer then I meandered home... almost full moon sauna this evening, pond is wicked cold. 42f with ice around the edges.. |

Nick Goldsmithwrote: Why won’t you shoot a moose, Nick? Just curious. Nothing in the lower 48 fills a freezer faster. |

we don't have that many moose here and it would be too much meat for me. a deer would be plenty of meat for me. Isa is a vegatarian so it's just me.. also it would be a real SOB to deal with getting a moose out of there. Even a deer would be real chore to drag out two miles through a swamp... |

Definitely not as manly as shooting a deer or a moose but I picked my 1st kohlrabi of the season along with a bunch of greens |

Nick Goldsmithwrote: Makes sense. You just need a D9 dozer to help with the haul out like they use with bowheads here. Fall whaling just ended, ice is back to shore, sun sets tomorrow and won’t rise above the horizon again until the end of January. This is the start of the long dark windy cold. This is when the Arctic turns into Mars. With a little luck, I’ll be gone for points south before the sun rises on Barrow again. |
