Help Us Restore Access to The Soul Asylum in the Utah Hills

Limestone lovers unite! The St George Climbers Coalition is close to restoring access to the Soul Asylum. We've reached a preliminary agreement with the mining company to allow public access to the crag once again IF we can acquire the needed liability insurance. SGCC will pay this fee annually, but we must fundraise first to be able to cover the expense.

Please read more at this post (https://www.instagram.com/p/DCUPfuByZAE/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) to find out some background and learn how you can help. Check out our website to sign up for an SGCC membership or make a donation to help with these efforts, and stay tuned on our social media for updates. Hopefully we can raise enough to make this a reality!

Happy to answer any questions. Cheers!

How much will the insurance policy cost per year to maintain access to the Soul Asylum? Before Todd Perkins resigned from the Southern Utah Climbers Alliance, he and the other acting hard working board members worked for 2.5 years, in conjuction with SUCA's attorneys, on this project to restore access to this awesome crag. Possibly SUCA would be willing to cover that payment to fund the first year of access.

Hey Misty! I just chatted with Todd P and he said he's coordinating with Mike S (SUCA Pres, as you know) to explore options and next steps. From what he sent me, Mike was really positive about it and said they could explore SUCA helping cover some of the cost. We have had some back and forth with the insurance company to get the policy to fit the mining company's needs, so we just have a ballpark right now of a few grand. Once we have a specific figure, we can definitely share it! We'll make sure to post new updates as we have them. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I'm the one American without Facebook or Insta but if you guys are planning any type of fund raiser let me know. I'm a furniture maker and wood turner and could donate some climbing holds, vases, small chair or something like that

Thank you for the update. I work closely with the President (as you know). He wanted me to get the question out to the public in my position as Vice President. We look forward to getting access to the public as it has been a closely watched issue for years now.

What is the relationship between SGCC and SUCA?

We're working on a more official statement about this since there have been so many questions! For now, I'll do my best to explain what we've discussed. As our community grows, the demands on one organization can be overwhelming, so SGCC was formed to diversify and expand our shared objectives. We work collaboratively and independently as needed and as projects demand. Since we're all volunteer board members, our time is limited, and we each have different strengths and connections to bring to the table. The more help we have to keep our areas open and maintained, educate the community, run different events, and achieve our goals, the better. It is not uncommon for one geographic area to have multiple nonprofits operating simultaneously (for example, look at the multiple mountain biking groups around here). I hope that helps! You can read more about our mission on our website as well. Cheers!

That's very kind of you. We will post updates on our website, so if you don't have social media, you can get info there. We will also be sending out regular newsletters to our members, so if you sign up, you can get info that way too.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
