Ward Smithwrote: You came a long way for this baby! Love these pictures! How much more time will you have to climb this? — I had a surprisingly wonderful day today. I had been visiting and looking at this formation for many months. The place has come to feel like a second home. But I thought if the opportunity came to climb it, I would probably back down because it appears way too difficult. I haven’t climbed many chimneys or done much stemming so it was all pretty new. I am surprised how comfortable stemming got after a while. The thing about this formation is after maybe 25 feet of chimney it transitions into a very steep slab that goes another maybe 40 feet? So it kind of has a little bit of everything. It’s going to take me sometime to learn some of this technique and to get conditioned for a route like this. My biggest fear was that I would injure my groin, but gosh, it was pretty comfortable! It’s a butt shot. The stemming gets wider before it eases up a bit.I haven’t been to the top yet so I don’t know what’s up there. Kind of anxious to find out! |

@ Ward- good luck! @ Lori- I had another thought about Tony- I am assuming that he had a hematoma in his leg that got infected. This may take a while to heal, but should do so eventually. One question you may want to ask is whether there's any chance the stent itself might have gotten infected, how this might be ruled out and how it would be treated if necessary. If he is being cared for by a hospitalist while admitted, that person would be the most likely to have, or be able to get, the answers. |

Very deliberately, I have disconnected from all media for the last several days to avoid the worst effects of the post-election media screaming- so aside from the WH, I really didn’t know where the other races landed. WH, Senate and House all in the same Party. Jeebus. Anytime in history this has occurred, it has been a disaster, let alone having a person like Trump in the Executive role. This country is in for a cornholing like it has never experienced. Citizens get the government they vote for, though…. |

apogeewrote: Hey, I tried to convince folks to do the correct thing. Whatever happens will happen.
More rights will be taken away, which is what Harris was trying to protect. Trump will protect more people, I think? But basic rights of Americans will dwindle. The negative is pretty obvious, many innocent people are likely to get hurt. |

Bit of bouldering today. Bit depressed about the whole climbing ban at Araps thing. 48% if the area is now off limits. |

Mark E Dixonwrote: Mark, thank you so much for your words here. They are giving me a little bit of direction. I’m worried and I’m sad. I’m getting all my information in texts from Tony and he sounds clueless. "Saw 2 doctors ,the wound care machine will likely be on for "weeks," and they think I need to go to a rehab facility instead of home." Later "they just brought me antibiotics, heparin and morphine." When I have asked him if he knows what's going on with his leg, he has no idea. Is it a clot, an infection? No clue. The doctor is gone for the weekend. The nurses don't know. I will try to find a hospitalist when I visit him today. |

Li Hu - You're in Kyoto?! A lifetime of gardens and temples to visit! That is, if you can still walk after that breakfast. |

My daughter in law and I both did the problem I broke my ankle on! As I bonus one of the locals who helped get me out of there when I broke it was also there to see it. Only v3 in case I sound like I’m bragging. |

Good job, Lori, on climbing up something that isn’t a slab! I pray for Tony everyday… surgery is tough especially when you’re old. Tony will pull through this - it just takes more time (something, I think the doctors don’t think about enough) and if the hip replacement is already scheduled the doctors are just itching to do it. Carl- having one of your favorite spots closed down sucks. |

Day four out of 12. Supposed to be a rest day but lots of hiking and trail work. My friend Mitch from California found a giant new boulder dubbed “The Behemoth” V1 at the start then VB but 40 feet high and well into Nick’s “bouldering” territory. |

Mark E Dixonwrote: Thanks! I wanted to go to Akihabara, but my daughter wanted to shop near Okikubo. So, I went there instead. Here’s me on a V2. https://youtube.com/shorts/GYHQ2K32eV4?feature=shared Had to work V3 and V4 feel possible, but would definitely need to project V4. Holds are all slippery. Problems were fun and definitely thought provoking, but did feel “on grade”. Harder mainly cause they’re more technical than my home gym. Didn’t have time to do V3 multiple times to video them Had to meet the family for a late lunch. I did grab some pics. |
