Hi! I'm also a Purdue student - I can't say I know Micah Robinson (who posted on this) personally, but can totally reaffirm what he said! We have a great climbing culture at Purdue. I route set at our gym, and am involved in Climbing Club. We have a super cool community of people here and try to go climb outdoors (Red River Gorge, Devils Lake, New River Gorge) as much as possible. Feel free to message me with any questions :)
Will there even be any pilots in 20 years? It already seems computers can do pretty much all the flying.
Funny, this thread is now touching all nearly all aspects of my professional background. (Higher ed, machine learning, and a bit of aerospace.)
I actually think this is a very good example of humans and AI already working symbiotically for quite some time to increase efficiency, quality, and/or safety for humans. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot more jobs look like this in the future.
Do you need to go to an university to get into commercial aviation? Is there aviation specific schools (outside of your typical university setup) that you can go to closer to mountains? outside of AZ, those aren't great. I grew up in WI / MN and moved out to the Seattle area due to it's variety of climbing and the best mountains in the continental US IMO.

dont “need” to, but most airlines ask a bachelors. embry is probably the best in the mountains
If you’re looking for a career in flying, don’t come here to SUNY New Paltz. After climbing in the Gunks you’ll end up saying “fuck this school” or “fuck this job” and just find a way to squeeze out as much time climbing as possible. I climb at least a few days a week, look for every excuse to work less and climb more, and I know that I will never ever live anywhere else because that sweet ass ridge is here.
