Joking…many of my friends are Trump supporters. It’s not that they support Trump, it’s that they don’t support the wars in Ukraine, the Middle East and they feel that the Southern borders are non-existent.

The Chinese ones don’t support the technology sanctions, trade wars and the military buildup 8000 miles from the borders of the USA just to blockade China.

Project 2025 doesn’t affect most of my friends and Family living here. So, that’s not really an issue for them?

It’s not a vote for Trump, it’s more of a vote to bring peace back, remove energy sanctions and allow the economies to prosper through stronger businesses and less military spending.

I’d like to add that I’m definitely not a Trump supporter, but there are valid reasons to vote Republican even if it’s for Trump. He’s so petty… hard to argue that.

Another forum I frequented solved the issue by creating a specific forum for POLITICS. No political posts were allowed anywhere else but the politics forum was full blown and I guess very active (I never ventured there). Perhaps MP could do the same???  I dunno - maybe its just an every 4 years thing here but it worked wonders there!

This is the “old people” thread. I think most of us are pretty reasonable here, and when the election is over, it’s over. After that it’ll just be about climbing stuff, travel, food and other somewhat related retired or soon to be retired people stuff.

We were in Kalymnos. Got back a couple weeks ago.

I spent the day looking for skateable ice. Wandering through the birches. That time of year after the leaves come down and before the snow does. You could plop me down in a birch forest anywhere on this planet and I would feel at home. Any time of year.

I found some perfect ice.

Went to Sublime Point today. HARD approach, one could die on it!
Great climbing.

I can't wait to get the skates back on and hopefully do some wing skating as well. It's hard to get perfect ice and perfect wind at the same time, hopefully this winter will produce! 

I love those days like you show in your pics where the ice is mirror smooth and looks like unfrozen water!

Li Hu.  “Old people”.  I hope you say that with the same irony I do. I have forced those words out of my mouth just to get used to them.  There is no part of me that feels old. “Mature“ might be a better word. I goof on these words because there’s nothing else to do, but I think most people here are shattering all the preconceptions about aging. Most of all we blast through our own conceptions.

Not to get carried away with the political thing, but we’re no longer 19 where we choose sides and feel the need to ridicule the other. I love what you wrote on the pro Republican issues, many of which I grapple with also.

I woke up thinking about yesterday‘s climbs.   What I was feeling on that rock is that when crux moves come fast and furious I lose my composure and look for safety – –a stance to hold on to and recenter, catch a breath – – when in fact what is called for is to make a series of bold and risky moves.  All the way up that particular route the Only way up was to move aside, stem, high step onto something dubious , trust what doesn’t look trustworthy and GO. I said to myself “trust your feet” over and over yesterday . Maybe better still, “trust yourself”.

Someone here once shared that the way they deal with hard climbing is to get tunnel vision. To treat the rock as though it’s a small 18 inch TV and only look at that. Halfway up this route, I looked up and said oh shit, that’s a long way to go! Refocusing on the rock in front of me and dealing with that solves the problem.  

Damn. This “sport“ requires all those things that tend to slide with aging – – decision-making, fast reflexes, fast twitch, sobriety, in the best sense of that word.

Just to dispel the delusion that one side will be the agent of peace, if the U.S. abandons Ukraine and withdraws from NATO, Ukraine will fall. Russia will rebuild quickly, and the next dominoes will be Moldova and the Baltics. If Moldova falls, Rumania and Bulgaria will enter Russia’s sphere and Serbia will start wars in Bosnia and Kosovo. In this scenario, which I believe is very likely, perhaps the best case scenario would be that Poland, Germany and the Czechs would form a defensive alliance, but I’m not sure that there is the will for that.  Hungary and Slovakia would absolutely join a Russian led block  

Perhaps one day, Europe will stand united and on its own, but that day is not in the near future…it takes many years to create the institutions and to rearm. Poland has been doing this at breakneck speed since the invasion, but still isn’t there. Anyway, a fractured Europe at war has never gone wrong for the rest of the world, right?

I've never stayed at Mohonk, but I just checked the rates for one night for their 30% off mid-week get away.  Cheapest option was $939.

If you have paid a guide to set a top rope for you, there should be no "bold and risky moves."

Apparently he wasn't conning anyone nor one-upping her since McDonald's has no records of her ever working for them. ( But now they do of Trump, lol). It appears to be another lie of the sort these people always tell -- meant to appeal to those who think serving fries is a real job and not building projects which provide thousands of other people jobs.

Currently the American voter has 3 issues they want resolved over all others: the economy, the border, and crime. To Democrats its only orange man bad -over and over again--because they got nothing. Nothing.
