People still wearing COVID masks AKA the maga hat of the Democrats |

Shaun Johnsonwrote: I suspect that I will regret having written this, but: To me these are not even close to the same thing. To me (and maybe this is because I grew up in the Carolinas) the MAGA hat is essentially a minced-oath (e.g. "let's go Brandon") version of the Confederate flag. To me, the MAGA hat indicates that the wearer doesn't mind being associated with the ignorance, bigotry, and hatred on display by the lunatic fringe on the right (e.g. MTG). Perhaps the wearer even revels in this association! Is there a more generous interpretation that I should consider? In contrast, what does the COVID mask indicate? A desire to not to get sick and not to unintentionally spread disease? Is there a more cynical interpretation that I should consider? |

Political rhetoric in a climbing forum |

mbkwrote: I still see a lot of mothers regularly masking themselves with their children at the climbing gym, school, playground, etc. Seeing faces for children is critical for social development and overall mental health. It was entirely nonsensical to mask schoolchildren and babies, who have nearly no risk. There is research going on that implicates a lot of novel depression and suicidality with lockdowns, masks, and other social restrictions. Especially those most vulnerable, like those with learning disabilities, and babies trying to learn how to talk. Does it get any more cynical than that? It’s clear cut child abuse. |

Extensive gear beta for trad - put a #69 here, a #420 here, a # 9&3/4 here. I mean, it's okay to know that you need a #7 or you'll die, but it hardly seems traditional if you know every placement ahead of time. Still have no idea what a "standard rack" is. For me it's one set of totems, small half set of nuts, tricam evoo (doubles on black), and tricam #5. |

Climbing movies that try to make climbing seem like this super meaningful thing beyond the fact that it’s just a hobby. Can’t we just watch someone try super hard on a route and say they had fun without this nonsensical story of trials and tribulations about their lives? |

People wearing denim inside while climbing/training. Why? What other sport wears denim while training? Who hurt you? Please don’t hurt me. Maybe more of a wtf than an ick, but still…ick |

Spraying beta in MP comments, rather than keeping it hidden in the ticks. Relatedly, basically spraying / ruining the crux in the route description on MP. Keep it vague if anything - "tough crux at the 4th bolt" but the way these FAs spray and spray these days... we get it, you wired it and sent it, congrats, keep it to yourself. |
