I'm annoyed with the drawstring closure on my current pack (I have an irrational dislike for drawstrings), and I'm ready to take the plunge on a new pack.  Before I pull the trigger on a new HMG Ice Pack, I thought I'd see if anyone was getting ready to unload theirs.  I'm only looking at the Ice Pack, not the Prism, because of the aforementioned aversion to strings.

Hey Eric,

Its a 70L not the 40, but in my opinion its not much weight added and will roll down to the same size. If you only have one HMG pack its nice to have the extra 30Ls for bigger/longer objectives.  I recently got a 70L Porter off eBay. Another option for used HMG packs. Whatever you get I hope it serves you well.

I can also vouch for this. I own the 70L ice pack and the headwall 45. They weigh the same and the 70L being a rolltop makes them similar bags

That's an intriguing option.  When rolled down, are the dimensions the same as the 40?  I wouldn't mind having a bit more space to double as a winter backpacking or longer expedition-type use.  An ounce or two doesn't bother me if I can roll it down so it's tidy.

They aren’t the same dimensions. You can compare the specs on the HMG site.

Thanks.  I was mostly thinking about the pack height.  The dimensions listed are for circumference (somewhat larger) and height when fully rolled open.  But it doesn't list dimensions when rolled down.  I assume it can roll down all the way to the frame/backsheet, in which case I would expect that all the packs would be roughly the same height.

Between my 45L and 70L HMG packs; when rolled down they are the same height.
