Join me for an outdoor climbing trip around Atlanta, GA?

Hey guys, recently getting back into climbing and want to do a little outdoor trip. This is list I am going off of: REI's List of Best Outdoor Rock Climbing Near Atlanta. I would prefer to do top rope but am open to bouldering. Trying to set something up in about 3 weeks (Weekend of Aug 3rd). Hmu and we can plan something. ____________________ Edit - Info on my previous experience: I used to climb competitively on my university team back in 2018 and worked as a climbing wall instructor (PCIA CWI certified). While I’ve been out of the game for a few years, I’m brushing up on new techniques and gear to stay sharp and safe. I prefer top rope but am happy to boulder too! Safety is a top priority for me, and I’m looking forward to connecting with like-minded climbers. |

Katie, I’d look for competent, reasonable people who you get along with and have similar risk management skills who you can meet and interact with before hand in the gym.

Valid point about the heat :( |

I climb all summer, the heat is not that bad. Just bring enough water and a towel. Maybe an extra shirt or two. Chase shade. You're a beginner, you don't have any "risk management skills." You'll want someone who has much better risk management skills than you do. But how do you evaluate someone's risk management skills when you don't have any of your own? I don't know. But they'll be setting up your top ropes, I assume. Your life will be in their hands. Maybe hire a guide if you don't have any gym friends you trust. Of the places on that list you posted, I've only been to Sand Rock. It's extremely beginner friendly. There's shade available. There are top ropes you can set up. But you'll want to go with someone familiar with the place. |

Thanks for the response! I should probably clarify for this post that I do have experience, I know my profile isn't very filled out. The Southeastern Climbers Coalition (SCC) is having a work day at Sandrock next Saturday the 27th. There will be trail work and hardware replacement going on. This would be a great opportunity to meet other climbers and maybe do a few routes with some of them after the work is done! If you want to help with the hardware replacement, you will have the opportunity to learn some basic rope access and anchor building skills from some experienced folks. |
