Russell - thanks for doing the Lord’s work. |

Russ you and your crew are amazing, you exemplify the true spirit of woodson exploration and are writing your section of woodsons history. Well done! |

This is off topic, but i was talking to another Woodson geezer the other day and he reminded me of a climb we did on south Woodson, a Leavitt creation called Magic Line and rated 11d. It's on the giant rock with the curving crack, can't remember whether that's K2 or Mt Everest, but it is the most spectacular climb I've done in SD county. Three bolts lead up and left on the west face to the NW arete. From there the most unlikely line of humps traverses straight out to the center of the north face. Its dead vertical with at least 70 feet of exposure. The traverse ends at a line of holds past a couple more bolts to the summit. Crux is stepping onto a crappy friction hump at the start of the traverse and letting go of the arete with your right hand. The location and exposure are dramatic, well worth the hike up to the rock. |

Russell Houghtenwrote: MP is in town and hes coming over to my place this Wednesday, if we do a meetup maybe make it at a bar or gym because id need an ebike just to make it to painted boulder anymore. Ill get back on with a date and time thats good and see if I can talk Allenby and Campos into coming as well. |

Ok so me and Michael will be at the Hard Rock gym in Poway around 5:00pm on Wednesday, March 13. We plan on hitting all the 5.6 test pieces. If anyone wants to hangout or chat or whatever come on by and watch us thrash. When I get on the rock these days I feel like a potato hanging from a couple rubber bands. |

Ron Amickwrote: Hey at least you're still hanging haha. I'll try to come tomorrow but as of now it's not looking like I'll be able to join unfortunately. |
|

augh sorry, something came up and were not going to make it to the gym today. Still it would be cool to meetup sometime |
|
|
Ah bummer! ...but maybe better for my situation. I broke my hand last week, so those 5.6s you mentioned would seriously have tested me. Maybe we could get a crew of Woodson aficionados to get together at one of the ACSD meetings? Next one is on March 25 starting with a social hour around 6pm at Duckfoot brewing Miramar. |

In the meantime, if anyone wants to check out some new routes at Woodson I've put a couple up on MP here: https://www.mountainproject.com/area/125662683/the-northern-territories

Wow those look seriously MEGA, Philipp! Can't wait to hop on em! A hearty congrats and hope your hand heals up soon. I'm around SD most weekends. Could gym or hit the north side. I have no excuses other than I'm a full time cubicle puke these days. |

Nice work Philipp on the routes you worked on. There are others on these forums who cry a lot but never actually do any hard work to develop the climbing we have here in San Diego. You and Russel and Mo are leading the Woodson charge these days. It is always just the few doing the actual work. Appreciate it man. |

I can't believe I'm just seeing this thread, so much goodness here - stoke, history, photos of new stuff and old. Please keep it coming! |
|

Philipp Arndtwrote: would have been a great idea if i had seen this in time, MP is in town until may, we still need to have a pow wow, im working on it |

Another solid day of whacking the bushes, another good find! |
|

Amazing to see how much climbing there is on woodson. This thread is so full of psyche- some of these new routes you all are putting up look like classics. I'm new to SD and was hooked as soon as I went to Woodson. I would love to get out there with a crew sometime if anyone wants to meetup there let me know. |

Anybody know where this map came from? It says playoutsidesandiego.com and it’s from 2011. Was wondering if a pdf or something is floating around out there. |

Hi Nick, This one is from Matthew Fischbach (2012) and linked on the main MP site for Mount Woodson. I have also compiled a Map with most of the climbs on Mt Woodson from various sources. I haven't gotten around to clean this up so it's very messy, and I still haven't verified a lot of the info on the ground. But if you want to have a look, here's a copy of it: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1XhAJwMQ7dB3ITxPJQumZfRp7OZjuz1E&usp=sharing Look for the sources in the description of the google map, this includes the playoutside map and a good amount of others. Happy exploring! Philipp |
