Yosemite Bigwall Permits - Instagram Updates
|
|
Hey all, Check out our new Instagram account, @yosemitebigwalltraffic, to see daily updated bigwall permit use. This is a valuable tool to see how busy popular routes in Yosemite are. Daily updated posts will have information for yesterday, today and tomorrow. The more community buy-in that we have for the self-registration permits, the more accurate the data we can share with the people will be. Permits are issued using 24-hour self-registration kiosk at El Cap meadow located right by the shuttle stop. Spread the word and climb safe! For those of us who neither have or want an Instagram account, is there some other way of seeing these? |

Of course cool if you could see real time data of the number of folks climbing the bigwall route you're going for.........the only downside I see is everyone changes their plans and doesn't do what they say they're gonna do, so might lead to folks making wrong moves - for example one of the first posts showed 5 people in 2 teams starting up Triple Direct on El Cap but 3 of the people switched to the Prow on Washington Column so Triple D was nearly empty for it's 30 pitches and 3 teams converged on the Prow - all good I just think you gotta take this info with a grain of salt and stay focused on the best objective for your team and send....noone needs the internet on the Big Stone! I'm climbing Zodiac starting on Sunday June 2nd come hell, high water, or hoardes. If everyone else wants to shift their plans around to avoid me I won't complain |

I am wondering about the possibility of including a public logbook at the kiosk so that climbers can view who is on what. This would enable people to see real-time updates as opposed to just daily updates on instagram. This would be the most useful for example when people roll in on a Friday night and if you can see that some teams rolled in a few hours before you and indicated the same objective, you can adjust accordingly. Any thoughts on this? From my experience earlier this summer, the current procedure is fill out the permit (on copy paper), submit one copy in the closed box, and then keep a copy on yourself. This doesn't allow for other climbers to see what others are planning to do. EDIT: to be more clear in case Patrick (below) honestly misunderstood, by "real-time updates" I meant being able to see who grabbed a permit recently by virtue of their route/party size being written down in a logbook. Essentially, fill out the permits as they currently stand and then write down on the logbook what objective you're getting on and your party size with the start date. Then you can see if others are planning to get on the same route as you. |

That way if they find poop on the ledge, they know it's your poop, and they make you go back and clean it up. You can also order food delivery via drone. One guy ordered a #6 Camalot to be delievered to him and then he returned it halfway up the Salathe so that he didn't have to carry it the whole way. Pretty neat stuff. |
