In the great majority of his posts, no matter how ridiculous they seemed, there was a grain of truth.

Sure, he was still an obnoxious rage baiting assclown tho

Ahh, but who of us isn’t.

Seriously tho, I assume those posting here are sincere, and to each his own to skip ahead or hit the “ignore” button, but if he got under the skin of people as badly as suggested here, and elicited a reaction beyond an eye roll, a chuckle, or a hmmm, then I’m not sure what to say…

Other than “I think someone needs a little more 5.9+ trad in their lives “

As Conrad Anker said, "A life without choss is a life unexamined."

I don't know if he doesn't personally believe the things he said, but I do know that I engaged him to try to have a reasonable, thoughtful discussion and really understand what he believes and why and when it got to the point of being able to support his ideas in a logical way he started to deflect and ignore questions to nail him down. I'm all for listening to other ideas, but when the person can't support them, uses circular reasoning, or just plain bullshit (like a bigot conservative) that person really doesn't have anything to offer other than unsupported opinions and that gets boring quickly.

That part of his posting has been irritating more than once - though obviously not enough for me to hit the ignore button let alone take the side of running him out of town so to speak (not directed at you).

I believe in diversity,  just not diverse opinions,  they upset me.

You’re joking, right? Tradi’s entire existence was to get a reaction from people. For better or for worse. He was never shy about this either.

"get a reaction" is someone  trying to manipulate and control your emotions.  I don't think that is his primary purpose.  No kidding.

"get someone to think" is more fitting, IMO.

google around a bit about how to get someone to think.  Many hits will indicate doing so by asking questions.  I think Tradiban goes a step further than most by making provocative statements that may cause others to ask questions which, yes, some find off-putting and/or not suitable for children.

No. There are ways to do that without pissing off most people reading it. The reaction was more important to him than “getting people to think”.

Reminds me of a Tricam. They have some fans, sometimes they might be right, mostly a pain in the ass.

I don’t know in which crack you’ve been placing your tricams in but if they’re a pain in the ass I think you’re using them wrong. Jokes aside Tradi was on occasion merely annoying instead of supremely offensive, ignorant, wrong, and outdated. This site will absolutely be different without him, but perhaps better.

It's obvious that Tradiban really, really, really got under people's skin...

I think that's primarily because people were not comfortable acknowledging the grain of truth in what he said, and not because he said things in an abrasive way.

In other words, people should develop thicker skin.

Or, to develop Mark's analogy, people should climb more 5.9+ run out choss.

Like it or not, Tradiban was an important part of the community, and we are diminished by his absence.

It’s a conclusion I don’t share, Marc801 C. And, in any case, not worthy of silencing - especially given the control individuals have here … if they choose to exercise that control.

None of that is true.

You’re elevating him into something he never was. He was/is a dipshit who is out to get a negative reaction from people no matter what.

He didn’t hit us in the face with uncomfortable truths. He didn’t turn the mirror on us. He didn’t take anyone out of their safe space.

And he most definitely never added to the collective conversation/knowledge of this group.

He was online forum herpes. Nobody will miss that shit.

Guess what?  We have different opinions.

That's what's nice about forums.

Haha f-in hilarious to hear you talk about different opinions cause the stuff I see you post in the dog forums shows you have zero capability of attempting to be understanding of anyone else’s opinion.

On a community level, I do think that a small number of individuals can easily ruin a community.

I've been following and posting on forums for ages. Once upon a time Summitpost was the hot forum for climbers but eventually it became abrasive, unfriendly and the community died. Same for Supertopo. My observation is that it is easier to destroy things than it is to build them. Some people seem to discover that it is a lot easier to get attention by wrecking things than it is to contribute and build things - sort of a narcissistic juvenile delinquent mindset. Tradiban may have got his strokes being part of the discord on Supertopo and when that shut down he moved to MP to get some more.

He didn’t add diversity. Stirring the pot without adding anything to the discussion is not a differing opinion, it’s being an asshole.

I see a lot of call out saying Tradiban was a bigot. What exactly did he say? I want the evidence, but when the mods wipe the forums it's kind of hard for me to make an objective call on his behavior. Can anyone produce a list of offensive quotes? or a screenshot of a back and forth that was worth banning and redacting a user?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
