Seems weird to accuse the LA Times of being "extreme left" given its ownership. If he were so "down with the people" he probably wouldn't be laying his staff off in droves. Do you think Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong is an extreme leftist? Did he become a billionaire by being anti-capitalist?

It is not weird at all to call the LA Times extremely left. They endorsed Gascon for re-election.

I wouldn’t call the the Times far left.  Left or left leaning yes; far left, no.  In other words, I think it is “weird” to call it far left.  The endorsement of Gascon is odd and could be based on a number of different issues. I’m solidly left and would not vote for him.  Having said that, right leaning “tough on crime” DAs do not accomplish more, have poor records of sloppy convictions and often adopt that posture to fluff their resume to run for public office later.  Honestly, given that the Times has a new owner and print media fell off a cliff long ago, the paper’s problems have nothing to do with its politics.

Would you call Google far left?

No.

Cite counter examples if you think it is a left leaning search engine. I’m intrigued to read some

Yes….. definitely.

Fat…. Letting criminals walk scott free hasn’t really worked out that well, or am I missing something?

But because I got the lefties here let me ask this question. Who do I need to go see so I can get a free tent? You know the kind they are giving out by the thousands.

I hope you all get out and vote for a change, LA can certainly get a better turnout than 23% this time.

Unless everyone is stuck on a non-moving freeway.

Good day all.

OK I think a sincere apology for facilitating this thread hijack is in order.

I'm sorry.

:)

To the OP, if/when you decide to move out here and need a belay partner, look me up. I owe you.

You clearly have never witnessed "extremely left" if you think a paper that gives this much space to the police union endorsing a super-developer like Rick Caruso is leftist. The freakin paper has an entire section devoted just to real estate promotion and reporting on notable transactions. Total commie stuff!

Gascon rode in on a weird wave. Jackie Lacey, while a Black woman, was also seen as in the tank to law enforcement interests and perceived as unwilling to prosecute cops for things they should truly be prosecuted for, like extrajudicial killings. In the wake of George Floyd and the BLM protests, she was toxic. I don't think he'd have the same luck today taking on an incumbent. But since he IS the incumbent, he'll probably stick around. Being DA is a really tough job, because big cities will always have crime, and nobody is ever happy about the way it's going.

As you know from "Not My Name" I'm a commie zillionaire living on the beach with servants picking the sand grains out of my bathing suit after every surf and feeding me peeled grapes. And I fly out to my climbing spots in a chopper. But I'm not so high and mighty, Guy, that I can't spare a tent for an old friend like you. So come on by the mansion and we'll pick one out for you.

You mean Google (Alphabet) one of the fastest growing companies in history, that expanded both through innovation and acquisition, currently #18 on the Fortune 500 list of most profitable companies globally? Again, maybe people are confusing being "progressive" with being "leftist?"

Taking good care of your employees and trying to be mindful of long term consequences in corporate behavior isn't "leftist." It's good business.

Does anyone really think that robber baron behavior or strip mining of resources and leaving a mess behind is good for business?

Hi Guy, I agree that the lack of enforcement of smaller property crimes has not been a positive thing.  If people know they're not going to be charged or prosecuted for breaking into cars or home, they're going to keep doing it.  I'm not voting to re-elect Gascon, who I didn't vote for the last time around.  Having said that I really dislike the chest thumping "tough on crime" prosecutors.  They are bullshitters who I find (as someone who is a lawyer and has friends in both the DA and PD offices) are far more interested in the appearance of justice rather than justice itself.

If by hijack you mean it already went into the drain when you hit the garbage disposal switch only to have it all spray back out again, yeah, it's cool. You snagged Guy to post again lol!

Haha… I’ll post if I want to. LA is very interesting place. Most of US are Billionaires who lead low key life styles, don’t wear our Rolex’s while we go downtown to get more coke. Climbing is easy when you got a helicopter and a jet parked at Van Nuys airport. Tahoe in 2 hours, Aspen in 3 and Boulder in 4.5 and don’t forget the Porsche parked in the garage of every one of those vacation investments.
So I say to “not my name”…. You probably couldn’t hang with the big boys so they laughed you all the way back to Coronado Island and your backwater condo with only an Audi A3 in the garage and a sailboat tied up out back. If you keep working and saving your $$$$ you might just get that A5 you have been dreaming about.

So let’s talk about Oakland. Good place for rich climbers?

Oakland Terrace isn’t bad either.

Hahaha, yes, LA is pretty” interesting”. If there were a single word to describe it I’d likely choose “enigmatic”

I just spent a week working in Oakland and I survived! So it must be great for rich climbers, right?

I have extended family in Oakland. They've lived there for decades. The things they tell me about what's happened to that place is often hard to believe.
