I'd like to work some ice tool hanging into my training. The prior owner of my house finished the entire basement, so I don't really have a good unfinished space to hang from wood ceiling beams, for example, and I'm a little leary of hooking my tools over the pullup bar over my doorway (metal on metal can't be good for either). I'm curious what others use.
I cut a section of a pool noodle and duct taped it for reinforcement. I just put it on my pull-up bar and put the tool on top.
You could also see if you can buy some old straight shaft tools for cheap (no pinky rest = more grip training) and just duct tape foam on those picks to make them a permanent training tool.
Last suggestion... buy some training tools like Furnace or similar... rubber and wood is not going to mess up your metal bar.
