Friday night after traffic, presumably? I can leave my house on a Friday night at 9 PM, too, and be camping outside J-tree or Tahquitz before midnight. Same drive would take me 5 hours if I left at 4 PM. Remember, what prompted this entire conversation is Not My Name continuously harping that it's ALWAYS gridlock in the LA metropolis. Which is actually not even close to true.

Minor point of disagreement. I don't think most rock climbers are "average Americans." Most average Americans are obese and barely exercise, must less rock climb. And most Americans have little time or patience for something as committing as climbing.

Andy you just proved my point that your life revolves around traffic. And green goes to red in one second at any time of day or night 365 days. With accidents you never know your arrival time. And on your return trip are you also leaving at 9 pm? 10, 5, 405 can be stopped at any moment.  Case in point driving to red rocks near vegas . Always traffic on the 15 interstate . Both directions. You can’t time it. I get that you’re a millionaire in “the industry” and barely work.

This thread is hilarious!

So not my name- be honest now. You live in an uncrowded, cheap part of San Diego?
Really!

Guy is still not comprehending the written word. World: COASTAL CALIFORNIA IS FULL. There’s a waiting list to get sidewalk space for a tent. Move anywhere elsewhere! Bishop is not LA. If you loved LA you’d live there. would you prefer transplants invade Bishop and make the 395 into gridlock every day?

Angelenos have Stockholm syndrome. They’re so traumatized and abused they identify with their captor.

You live in San Diego. Which, BTW, I love. But it has just as bad or worse traffic than LA. Hope you're staying above water down there...

Andy again, start reading. Traffic and cost in all of coastal California cities is bad. That’s the Bay Area south to the Mexican border. Inland cities aren’t much better. So I don’t tell be it’s great and don’t urge them to move here like you and some others here do. I tell them the accurate truth. You’d better be retired and a millionaire or never drive to have good quality of life in California.

You're doing the lords work there not my name. Keep the gate closed, admit sparingly.

I'm on not my name's team now.

I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!

I'm a rock climber dammit. My life has value!

Your guys' Angelino cards are revoked for inattention to film history. That is Peter Finch as crazed anchor man Howard Beale.

He won an Oscar for Best Actor for that role but sadly passed away before he could accept it.

Just goes to show it's no good carrying that much anger around. I used to shout at the bees buzzing past my car in gridlock on the 405, now I smile like the Dude as they fly by. The rocks can wait.

I've lived here for over a decade, and the cost of living has completely gotten out of hand. It was doable when I moved here in 2011, but nowadays it's brutal.

In terms of climbing, the communities in L.A. are filled to the brim with douchebags (I mean, it IS L.A., home of the douchebag). I have met some nice ppl, but they don't live in L.A. proper. Be prepared to drive at least an hour for any decent climbing, but to get anything remotely close to the quality you're used to, you'll need to drive further away (approx. 2 hours or more depending on the time of day).

Do your research!!

You are like a broken record. We get it. You don't like SoCal. Many of us like it here and are able to make it work for us just fine.

Getting stuck on the 805/5 isn’t much fun in SD either. 3 miles in 40 minutes
