Are TC Pros larger now?
|
|
I ordered a new pair of TC Pros in my "normal" size (38.5) and they feel huge! The toe box folds like a taco when I place my toe on a hold and it seems all my weight is now 100% on my toe instead of being distributed across the shoe. Has anyone else noticed this with a recent pair of TC Pros? Did the sizing change within the last year? |

Anna Brownwrote: No idea of the past, but I bought mine a year ago and fit exactly into a 43.5 whereas with Scarpa Vapour V need 45 while my comfy street shoe size is 46. |

Apologies b/c the reference is so much larger than yours, but 45.0 and 45.5 are consistently about 1/4-1/3 size larger than OG Air Tommys. In Katanas, it’s .75-1.0 full sizes larger, vs OG katanas! I’ve heard that the 39.5 new TC fits slightly sloppy compared to OG TC’s, so that would be consistent with my experience. I’d size down 1/2 size for now, good luck. |

My issue is this new pair of size 38.5 TC Pros feels larger compared to 3 other pairs of the exact same shoe in the same size that I already own. It’s the newer style TC Pro. Did the sizing change within the last year? |

So was thinking of getting a pair of tc pros for an all day trad shoe, with the size change and stretch how much would you size down from street? |
|
|
yeah, my new pair was about .5-1 full size larger. However, I've not noticed much of a stretch. |

I too went down a full size with the new model. 41.5 to 40.5. |

I keep hearing about people downsizing...I didn't. I had two pairs of the old TCs in a 42.5. I'm on my fourth or fifth pair of the new ones (it's the only shoe I wear and I keep a rotation of resoles)...also a 42.5. YMMV |

Anna Brownwrote: So I’m clear, seems your issue is that a pair of new style TC’s from 2022 is smaller than a pair of new style from 2023? That would truly be odd. Can’t say I’ve seen that, but I think my pairs are all 2021-2022, haven’t bought a pair w/ 2023 manufacture date. |

I noticed a change from the 2022 to the 2023 shoes. Since then they've been fairly consistent but each shoe is a little different. The newer ones feel a size larger than the old ones. I went from 39.5 to 38.5 on mine. A La Sportiva rep told me that the person responsible for shoe moulding or something had retired, and then a much younger person took over. |

New ones fit a half size larger for me, I've been happy with the half size smaller of the new ones. I am referring to the new STYLE vs the old STYLE. |

I'm going with the half size larger crowd. Some years ago I tried on a pair of 46s (their largest size; I wear about a 13 1/2 street shoe, or 48, 49 range) and I couldn't get it on the foot without considerable struggle and pain; A definite no-go for an all day trad shoe. Fast forward to the release of the new version of the TC Pros... Out of curiosity, I tried on a pair at a shop in Boulder and they actually fit reasonably well, assuming a very slight bit of break in. They haven't completely broken in to all day as I had hoped, but they are good for a half day for sure (after one resole now). I bought a second pair of the new version TCs as a back up and they fit very slightly tighter--so, a 1-3 pitch shoe. Conclusion: There may be variation within the same size, so I'd suggest trying on multiple pairs of the size you want. If they made a 46 1/4 that would likely be perfect for my big feet for all day comfort. |

This photos shows my size issue. All 3 shoes are size 38.5. The two on the left are new shoes purchased from different vendors in 2023 and are too large. At the suggestion of La Sportiva’s customer service, I filed a warranty claim today for mislabeled shoes. |

Anna Brownwrote: Cool comparison, Anna! The one on the right at the proper size would conform better to my feet. The ones on the left my feet would be more flat with less curled toes, and good they are longer?!? I prefer a wider shorter toe box.
This is why I like Sportiva. Great response from them! |

I’ve never climbed in TC Pros that are too large before this shoe and it was very eye opening. A correctly sized TC Pro has incredible “suspension” built in where the weight is distributed across the whole shoe, instead of it all being concentrated into your big toe. With the too large shoes, my big toe hurt and I felt very tenuous while leading. |
