Thats my priority, minimal people, fortunately there are great places only an hours drive from LA where you can climb and not see a single person. If people in LA are complaining about crowds they are doing it wrong. Lots of great climbing an hour or less from LA with no crowds.

This is a great Rorsach test. I look at that map and see at least 12 different freeways working great and two having some issues. Definitely the green glass is fuller than the red one. Everyone knows not to start driving East on the 10 on a Friday afternoon. But I can wake up at the beach at 6 AM on Saturday and be climbing in J-tree by 9 AM.

BITD, the game was surf the early morning glass, grab a few runs at Waterman, Baldy, or Mt High if the snow was low, then finish the day with a couple pitches at Jtree. LA sux...

Tell me one place worth living that isn’t a little weird. And BTW, with the warm winters, Waterman has rarely been open for I don’t know how long. You’ll get an occasional season where you can hike and ski/board, but it’s rare to have the lifts running.

Last season wasn't their fault, ton of snow but the road washed out. Before last season I would go up to Kratka and spin and ski with my dog and Waterman always had more than enough to open if they wanted to. I don't know what is going on with the owners but they are blowing it.

Just a guess: the folks singing LA's praises are GenX/boomer homeowners, retired or nearly-retired. And the folks bitching are old-millennial renters, working the standard 9-5 for the foreseeable future. amirite?

I'm on the younger end of GenX and not retired, nor nearly retired. And, to be clear, I'm not saying there's nothing worth complaining about regarding LA, but if you have the financial resources and plan the geography of your life well it can also be a fantastic place to live. The fact that there's, OMG, TRAFFIC, in a metropolis of more than 10 million is hardly a news flash. Been to Seattle? NYC? The Bay Area?
A cousin of mine moved to LA years ago to work a big executive job in a downtown skyscraper. They asked where they should live and I suggested Hancock Park, Silverlake, maybe Mt. Washington. All suggestions were based on proximity to his work. Instead, they moved WAY out by Calabasas for other reasons. Unsurprisingly, he was worn down and pretty unhappy with the 1.5 hours each way commute. Could have easily avoided that.

Which is 8 -12 hours from coastal Los Angeles in ever present traffic. Face it without a helicopter you’re not getting to that mid week. It’s a 2 am wake up Saturday to return midnight Sunday

It’s a one hour backup on 29 palms highway to park blvd to entrance to hidden valley, or just as long to Indian cove or the east entrance. 12 different freeways don’t lead to the good climbs. And by three PM Friday and 3 Sunday driving back all are gridlocked. Why again do you want another million neighbors clogging the roads Andy? You’re wrong and you know you’re wrong. No, not everyone who moves here knows everything . These chamber of commerce cheerleading realtor posts are singing the praises of garbage tick rock close and empty roads to far away. Does not happen or exist . You’re waiting in line at the rock gym behind 100 people.

You still have to live and drive in shithole LA no matter how rich you are. He wanted to live in pleasant burbs and get double for his money. Not a 100 year old shack. Closer to some real rock. 1.5 hour commute is average in LA. The very point of quality of life is NOT to move to Seattle , Coastal Cal or NYC. It’s not worth it . what you’re saying is you have to work in entertainment and do make seven figures and never drive it’s worth it. That’s a tiny fraction of climbers.

Seriously, dude, I know you're a troll, but can you at least try to sound like you're out of Jr. High? "He wanted to live in pleasant burbs and get double for his money..." Not sure who you are talking about but sounds like they should move to the climbing Mecca of Madison, WI. It's got all that and ice fishing, to boot!
"That’s a tiny fraction of climbers."
Who cares? If you want a place that's great for "all climbers" I'm sure you'll love Boulder!

SO many people seem to forget the CA motto. "Life is great when you're rich!" Go work some more so you too can enjoy the life of climbing!

Used 2climb, that's the motto for almost everywhere at this time on this planet. I can live anywhere I want to, I live here because I can live nowhere better for less!

There used to be “crag rats”, but nowadays they’re called “guides”.
