I sold my frankenrack of screws last spring it was a mix of grivel helix bd ultralights and turbos. I bootied a blue ice steel screw and I like it quite a bit. I’m considering buying a full rack of them but I’m open to other suggestions. I know I don’t want ultralights of any brand.

You owe it to yourself to try the CAMP ( formerly Cassin) rocket screws.

agreed, not the most "pretty" screws but they are well made and almost place themselves.

Why don’t you want ultralights of any brand?  Can’t go wrong with a rack of the BI Aeros to be sure, but the Aero lights (aluminum) are lighter and just as good.

If you’re basing your opinion of ultralights on the BD, then you’re misled.

Edit:  Also curious what’s the added benefit of the Rocket screws?   For example, for a pound of 13 cm screws, I get 7+ Blue Ice Aero lites to  4- of the CAMP Rockets.   And to me, I can’t imagine the rocket places any faster than the BI.  By the time I even think of placing a BI screw, it’s already in.

My reasons for not wanting ultra lights is that it seems to me the only benefit is weight savings while the downside is extra cost, lesser durability, and at least in the case of the bds they  always seemed to bind up worse. I don’t carry more than 12 screws and on wi 4 and below I don’t think that weight is holding me back. The durability is my primary concern.

The blue ice aero screws are lighter than other steel screws, go in really nicely, have pretty colors that help keep track of your sizes, and you can reuse holes made by others cause they’re larger in diameter. Outside of cost, I haven’t found a downside

Two thumbs up for the BI Aero steel. I'm also a fan of the 'snappy' handle, for whatever reason I don't like any of the floppy handle screws (e.g. petzl, camp).

I just ordered most of a rack of blue ice all steel screws from epic tv. If you get enough shipping is free and the and the price was $52 a screw.

just upgraded half  of my rack to the Blue ice aluminum rigs. zero binding issues in  soft ice and really nice experience.

For added performance you can get CLP wipes (gun oil/lubricant) that come in a circular tube like wet wipes...push through a few times with v-threader tool.

I have plenty of CLP but that is a rather nasty pollutant to put in the water system if you don't need to. the new blue ice screws do not need any lubricant. the old BD and petzle aluminum might benefit from lube.

Petzl screws are tried and true. I think the blue ice are the are great second option.

A better treatment is a ceramic nano coating. Still going strong after 2 seasons and into a third.
