Stupid forum is soooo slow I was sure my first post failed. Ah well, at least I can lock it down so it will disappear soon enough. |

Thank you, Jan. I almost never browse topics on Mountain Project because most are not relevant to me. But I noticed most people just don’t know how to share more of themselves than their Scarpa shoe size. We are so much more than that and I think we have made the best of virtual connection. I wouldn’t know what to do without Helen’s potatoes or Jan’s tomatoes or the specific route information from Bob. Or Nick’s incredible landscapes. Or Russ’ general hostility. Getting out for some easy walks and scrambles this is one of my favorite rocks and I think I see a couple of good lines aside from the routes that already exist. I’d like to try them out. (this is how a morning goes… Sitting and staring at rocks. Probably why joining the neighborhood hiking crew is not a good idea.) —— I’ve been mulling this over a lot and have talked to Bob about it. For the last three or four years I have been so specific about my climbing goals and have left so much behind because there’s just not the time or energy to do it all. I am not going to become a lead climber and I would rather not load that task on myself at this age. However, there’s so much I can be learning. When I saw the route, Where Have All The Cowboys Gone I thought what if I took the time to acquire the skills “as though” I was partnering up that route? So I have dragged out the ropes and cordelettes, cams and nuts again. I can make a mean fisherman’s knot. I can Clove-hitch anything. It’s a journey I can take slowly. 2024 resolutions anyone? |

M Mwrote: Wow, 4 days. And now it is cold here in 'tropical' MA, so I can imagine what it is like 'down east'!!! The longest we were without power here has been 5 days, but that was after a September hurricane, so didn't have to deal with sub-freezing temps. Hope you are reconnected very soon!!! |

Get to 178 pounds. I’ve added my ticks, and will start off at JTree with 5.7-ish and hope to work my way up through 5.10s? Looking to go to New Jack City, and hope to get a few good classic routes there. A couple easier WI climbs on Harrington Wall weather permitting. Tahquitz in the Spring. Get some classics in. Rainier, Liberty Ridge. Shasta Sargent’s Ridge. In the gym, keep working V6 and 5.12s. Hopefully, be able to flash a 5.12a and a V6 end of 2024? Bouldering outdoors to V6? Already projected JBMFP at JTree. Took a couple hours. Hope to not have to post any X-rays here. We’ll see if I can do any or all of these this year? |

Alan Rubinwrote: We tried to make our electric utilities public in a referendum in November, the Canadian power suppliers spent millions on ads telling us how great their services are and how if the people took over we would be without power for days on end... Now I have a feeling this is payback for living in a region that heavily voted to boot the foreign owned utility company. |

M Mwrote: Some of my coworkers are also still without power, they say it’s downed trees? |

Li Huwrote: Because of the referendum in November, our power supplier hired a bunch of "arborists" from Louisiana to clear around the lines this summer. They basically did some light trimming and used their blowers half the time. It was mainly for show. The wind on Monday cleared everything they missed... |

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nhVfuacsLDw Listening to my California mix tape on my Walkman as the plane taxis and I get ready to leave this dark, cold, barren wasteland on the shortest day of the year for sunny points south. Zeppelin, of course. Joni Mitchell’s California, Estimated Prophet by the Dead. Everclear Santa Monica, LL Cool J Goin back to Cali, Doors LA Woman, mamas and papas California Dreamin, Beach Boys/dlr California Girls, Hotel California 94 acoustic Eagles. And that’s just side A! Hope everyone has a wonderful solstice and gives thanks for the return of the sun! |

Colden Darkwrote: Good God. This picture is beautiful and vast and unsettling. How did you ever…. ? Your California playlist is almost identical to mine… except I also have California Luv (2Pac). I really want to know what that Side B is. And your Barrow playlist. Safe flight!!! |

2024 resolutions? Make a dent in my project to climb all the 14ers in CA. The Palisade Traverse and Langley will knock off 6 of them and leave me with 6 to go. The late snow and closed roads last summer slowed me down. First too much snow, then too much lightning in August. California dreamin! Also, climb another 5.12a that’s not quite as sandbagged as the first one that I recently did. |

phylp phylpwrote: Lust for life is my favorite Iggy song besides all the classic Bowie songs he wrote. Saw him once in Roanoke VA on Halloween, never met so many junkies in one night ever! Dead Kennedys Too drunk to fuck was a good one too, Holiday in Cambodia and Nazi punks were always good at (some)parties. |
