Bare-footed climbing

I'm curious what people think of bare-foot climbing. I want to hear any opinions people have about any aspect of it. 

Lots of hard climbers have done it and done it well.

I always climb barefoot when I forget my shoes.

I did a season in Potrero where I made a rule that anything under [grade] had to be climbed without climbing shoes or approach shoes. Most of those pitches I went barefoot to get the benefit of toeing in on the pockets. 

I'd like to think I got stronger feet out of it; at the very least, it would give me confidence if I ever dropped shoes on a multipitch.

This tactic was used by Jim Dunn on the FFA of Zonked Out on Woodchuck Ledge in NH in 1978. Of course, the climbers around Dresden, Germany, were often climbing very hard routes barefoot on the Elbesandstein well over 100  years ago.

Yeah dude, Bernd Arnold was the man! He was in a really killer old Chouinard poster way back when, "This Man Needs Chouinard Gear".

Bernd Arnold was indeed 'the man' in the Elbe region in the 70s and 80s, but was already following a very old, well-established tradition of.barefoot climbing there. 

I definitely enjoy a little bit of barefoot climbing. I like the way you can curl your toes around jugs.

It helps a ton to go barefoot all the time first to get those pads built up, its painful without leathery feet IMO

All of could think of was that climb fingers in a light socket that someone posted about on here a while ago... I imagine toes wouldn't fair any better than fingers.
