Have a chance to move to LA. How's the climbing?

Diego Climberwrote: Not My… you are dead wrong my friend, I live 8 miles from the City of Angels. Holidays can be and are an issue to be sure. But personally I find San Diego to be far worse driving wise. I feel for my SD brothers and sisters when I head south and see the sign- by Mammoth. San Diego 405 miles. |

For Karl….. try this on for size: https://www.mountainproject.com/area/107965156/fish-creek-rock And please keep your eyes open, you drive past at least 4 really good spots for Climbing. I will not spill the beans on places I get taken to. That is why folks share with me the information to the new spots. If you wish DM me and ask- that way I can be true to my word. Later |

Karl Walterswrote: I love this answer. Totally in keeping with the Californians. You rock. |

Andy Rice, are you retired or unemployed or a trust find kid? Those are ways to exist in LA and climb. You’re welcome. |

Guy Keeseewrote: Guy stop with your hallucinations . All 3 mega Metro areas in Cal have long gridlock rush hours. Monday to Friday 5-10 am and 2-8 pm. Leaving Friday and getting back Sunday is a multi hour ordeal. Need to take off from work Friday and Monday. You’ve wrong and your cheerleading encouraging more people to jam the roads is non sensical. Unless you’re a real estate agent. Living in LA is horrible unless a work from home multi millionaire , retired or unemployed and you like being homeless. Which one are you? Again, being in the heart of LA CITY is worse then the suburbs. The suburbs are still bad. |

David Katzwrote: You are retired, don’t commute, you are in a distant suburb and when you drive to climb you sit in massive half day long traffic jams. Stoney point and tick rock are choss garbage. |

This is the dumbest thread on MP right now, maybe that’s why I love it so much! |

Tradibanwrote: We are shooting for MP history |

3.5 hours North… no climbs on this baby- yet. Enjoy yourself |

Diego Climberwrote: None of the above. Are you saying that John Long isn't a climber? He's worked as a teacher in LA for many years (in addition to writing) and lives within a couple miles of me. |
|
|
What's the traffic like though? |

Diego Climberwrote: I must laugh reading your quote that I am retired and don’t commute. Maybe Google “David Katz Real Estate” In 2023 I listed and sold properties from Hollywood ( corner of Santa Monica Blvd and El Centro ) to Santa Barbara ( just below San Marcos Pass ) You might want to do some research before you make such claims |

If you find yourself hopelessly stuck in LA traffic trying to reach the crag, at least you can listen to some good tunes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sa7EkXpy8jE Or, upon losing all hope, you decide to "get away from California ..... maybe in another life, you'll like to stay ... " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TE-RYXWU2g8 See also, Largo's story about Tobin jumping off the Green Arch. It begins with some cute lines about leaving LA in the dust, headed east. Some things never change! ... P.S. Andrew, the Californians sketches on SNL always have me in stitches. You're headed to josh? On the 210? What are you , CRAZY , it's gonna be JAMMED |

jt newgardwrote: "Stuart, how do YOU know so much about Tick Rock?" |
|
|
Stuart and Karina are meeting up at Tick Rock for a discreet, yet very steamy belaytionship. And in the choss no less. How improper! .... I moved here from Wisconsin so I have to confess to adding to the horrible gridlock that plagues us all. I would go back but unfortunately I made too many amazing friends here :( This whole time I could have been hangin in a dive bar slingin Pabst Blue Ribbons instead of climbing on sunny rocks. Where did it all go wrong ???? |

jt newgardwrote: When Nazis started openly marching down State st. in Madison? |
|
|
That would be a low point for sure although I lived in Madison for 6 years and it was a wonderful place to be. We marched to the state house when Gov. Walker was going after the teachers union. Protecting state funds from corrupt greedy teachers probably seemed like a good idea at the time, especially since they have so little free time to fight back (you know .... from teaching our kids and all ... ) however he was voted out of office.... Good riddance! ... ok back to climbing ... Rode my bicycle to Devils Lake all the time, never climbed once! It’s just not as much in the popular culture back home! What do you guys think would take longer, driving to Idy thru LA ( maybe 8-10 hrs I’d say, 14 hrs if there’s traffic ) or catching a quick flight back to the motherland ? |
|
|
Another reason- the best sport climbing in the LA area will never reopen. Williamson rock. |

Andrew Ricewrote: John climbs in the west LA climbing gym. He works part time from home and is mostly retired. Climbing weekdays is OK as long as you don’t drive 5-10 am or 2-8 pm. Night climbing with headlamps is doable. |
