Isn’t “sit down start” annoyingly redundant?

What’s the redundant part? I mean, I guess most people verbally say “sit start” instead of “sit down start” if they are talking about it out loud. SDS is just the abbreviation for climbs for documentation purposes in guidebooks tbh

How about digging out the start for more than 4 moves? DDS?

Bouldering is so fun, but this is why people (including Honnold and JStar on this week’s podcast) make fun of it

I’d be curious to know what John Gill thinks about this discussion (or the current state of bouldering, in general).

Jstar can make fun all he wants, but he also credits a season focused on bouldering around the Rockies for his most successful sport climbing stint in Europe a few years back……pretty sure Ondra had a similar experience with bouldering as well   #hatersgonnahate

I generally support adding bolts to older, excessively runout routes. As Beck points out, the runout on older routes is usually due more to budget than a desire for danger. I think that heading off potential hospitalizations and I juries is worth the slight ding to someone's ego. Another good example of this is the anchor bolts on Colorado Crack at J-Tree, a location where the park-approved bolts generally get chopped with 24 hours of installation. Bolting there speeds up parties to avoid congestion, and reduces rock wear on the anchor crack, which is starting to get more noticeable.

Wrong thread bro bot.

With most roped climbing the crux is somewhere up there **gestures vaguely**, not within the first 6 ft of the ground... so we just don't care.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
